Are you implying a cause/effect relationship here? And I believe the correct phrase is "when in doubt, pull it out." Man has that phrase saved me a few times:)

It's my impression that memory usage is very obscured in functional languages. Others' thoughts?

That's funny. I ran out of memory on my server last night too. Spent most of the morning trying to trim everything down. The common scripting languages should include memory optimized basic data structures..

Which turns out to be bs in the end. Just about everyone does college and just about no one brings it upon themselves to do anything out of the ordinary afterward.

This was unexpectedly quite good. It hit some points that I've been feeling strongly about for a while. I found the warning that it's getting more risky to just sit on ideas and not act inspiring. Will be doing extra coding tonight!

> What possibilities exist for startups merging? Sure they can merge, but this is not an "exit". As far as I know, the purpose of a startup is a successful exit of some type.

> If they're already way in debt, shouldn't they want to take more risks? 1. They took basically zero risks before, so it would not be "more". 2. And screw up their credit history/get creditors chasing them? > So wouldn't those peo

By refactor he means to change the purpose of the code, not just the implementation. Your tests will not cover this.

To be fair, it seems that everyone other than I took this in the context of more traditional software project, not an ill-specified one man startup project. I was referring to the later.

None of us have the stats to prove anything conclusively. And this is the problem. If the article is going to make such big claims with such small evidence, then it seems worth evaluating some more obvious solutions first.

That's why I said sometimes. If you read the article, it claims that this is never the case. I presented my disagreement with this.

You are assuming that development only goes in the forward direction. When I really have latitude in my goals, my code is just about impossible to pin down until it's 95% implemented.

SMALL. Are you implying that it's not? Or maybe you're with the aaron crowd in believing that it has to be absolutely perfect or it's useless. Heck, even that only could really apply to the design and architecture of an app. Perfection is r

Sometimes it just does slow you down overall. Remind me again, how many web startups have failed because of a bug? How many? Hm.
