I would work backwards from why you want to learn a new language in the first place. Definitely spend some time on that. Usually the reason will lead directly to a project that you want to work on. Otherwise it will be hard to follow thro

I like the idea. It would be cool if multiple devices could create a mesh network where students and teachers could communicate with each other without a connection to the global internet

One quick note is that the boiling frog metaphor actually doesn't happen in nature. When the water is too hot, the frogs jump out https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2006/09/the-b...

Why is there so much fetishization of violent content in the comments? Sure maybe liveleak provided some footage you couldn't get on youtube and that is indeed a loss, but to think that the violence you see represents the truth is just

An engineering feat, definitely. However there are so many ways this technology can be abused.

The motivations seem so confusing. It says this doctor sacrificed his reputation by providing fake fentanyl prescriptions for $33k/yr. Most physicians make 10x that. Really strange.

I would spend more time understanding your motivation for brain computer interfaces. It seems more like a research project with some applications to neurodegenerative diseases, but to actually get anything done you'll need to master se

Imagine how the people back then were thinking of how future peoples would view them. Now we are those people.

You can email your congressman/woman if you’re in the US Otherwise, we can try to see the evidence for ourselves, via articles and satellite imagery and try to make more sense of the situation.

No good engineer I've worked with only did the bare minimum. Usually it was 2x or 3x beyond that e.g. thinking about the customer, understanding the right technologies, designing for scale, etc.

Honestly the best perk in a job is a short commute. I would take a huge paycut for a shorter commute. Anything over a twenty minute drive is a no go for me. A five minute bike ride is ideal.

Looks like it was a case of mistaken identity. One party named the OP with power of attorney, mistakenly thinking of someone else with the same name. What bothers me is how that is possible, don’t you need SSN, address, signature, something

As someone who has worked at Amazon as a PM, it's always surprising how many different verticals that the company expands to. But it's probably not all that surprising: 1. Long-term approach in attracting the best technical minds

It’s easier to write code in a notebook. I frequently look at a screen for a minute, memorize what’s there, and do the rest on a piece of paper. If you sum up total screen time during an 8 hour day, it’s around 1 hour of bursts.

Of course. Just expanding on the idea behind journaling is that it is a scaffolding for your mind. For me, without journaling, my mind will wander and probably resemble a random walk. Instead, I found that by organizing my days into "p

One trick I learned to slow down time is to keep a journal and write both about the future (either as a narrative or plan a schedule) and about the past (either as a journal entry or an audit). This could be about anything, any minute detai
