it's actually more group representation theory you'll need: the rotation group has an infinite number of representations acting on different vectors spaces, rotation of an electron in 3d is SU(2) which maps to SO(3), the rotation

after having spent a third of my life in academia i don't see this happening: everyone want as many as possible articles, if possible in the most high impact journals. detecting fraudulent or irrelevant pieces is against that goal.

as a former physicist i couldn't agree more. in fact you can construct a lagrangian almost uniquely from the underlying symmetries of the system. it's literally the most used tool in theoretical physics, and it's so powerful

i might have an even more unpopular opinion: we might have too many cars.. in switzerland, we have 6.3 mio cars for 8.4 mio ppl, almost none of my friends have one, i just don't understand how it's even possible. but what's s

thanks for the very interesting story. i never went beyond the prototyping stage for the products i designed. i always thought that small scale production would be an easy next step. i understand how wrong i could have been thinking it was

while i have almost no use of this software, it's one of the most powerful open source tool around. i wish there was a similar effort to make Freecad more reliable (my bad not helping btw). also this has already been discussed and seem

i disagree with the less waste argument. there is clearly a rebound effect here: by making the price cheaper and significantly increasing the mass that goes to orbit you eventually generate more waste.

it's not uncommon that things get published below the five sigma bar, you would get one paper every decade else.. however 3 sigma is not enough, things get quickly back to noise in this field.. unfortunately, i left theoretical physics

this applies to everyone but only the rich has the money. the technology almost didn't change since von Braun in 1940, go have a look at a V2 turbopump and compare with the latest Barber-Nichols models. sure metal alloys changed a bit,

curious of the price of de-orbiting an m6 screw (say m = 4g, v = 8000m/s) given it has the same kinetic energy as a small car (m = 1000kg v = 16m/s).

If your ready paying your camera the price of a small car, Xenics has a few alternatives that work well. They also have a support team who replies to your questions. It's important to note that some technologies (Micro-bolometers, InGa
