UI nag: the fixed header is not functional (how often do people search a blog)?

That is a very presumptuous observation. Reviews are subjective by definition. I have also spent a certain sum of money buying apps I could not return, despite the great reviews. For instance, many apps have very backwards UI's that I have

Which is terrible UI. I don't think we're disagreeing so much as diverging on the definition of what constitutes an issue here.

The last point is a great idea. I've had my NAS Time Machine backup get corrupted and TM forcing me to redo a full backup a few times now to the point of me abandoning it entirely..

Surely you can't say that about `git branch -d` vs. `git rm` and other puzzling inconsistencies.

That's the downside of keeping your data in a service. This is a conceptual problem due to the lack of agreed upon data protocols. Google Reader has highlighted the issue well, and more services are to follow I'm sure. This is an issue that

The only thing I can think of is to set up contact, calendar etc. sync to Google (via ActiveSync or otherwise). Calendars won't magically transfer over since they're assigned to a particular calendar, on iCloud in your case, but contacts sh

I don't know anything about Core Data so pardon my ignorance. How has Apple marketed Core Data? I'm asking because the issues you've mentioned are solved well by SQLite, but perhaps that's because Core Data wasn't designed to be used in any

Being in it for the money is not the same as caring about your well-being. I have no trouble imagining someone who does not care about money but cares greatly about their well being.

But it has won nevertheless. The question then is what we are to do to move the web into the realm of applications. I don't have an answer, but one advantage mobile apps hold is UI standardization. There is no one right way to build an app

Some great insight, but I do wonder if it was ghost-written. Courtney certainly didn't give up her Prada pants, nor has she fully quit the machine: in 2004, she released a solo LP on Virgin records, and in 2010 she released another as part

A somewhat unrelated conceptual question: if Chrome is putting web apps alongside desktop apps, what does that do for usability of apps on a platform in general? If a web app was created to emulate a native OS UI, wouldn't that be taking a

What about iOS and Android? One is a Unix, the other a Linux. If you mean in the "truly open-source" fashion, then it's entirely up to the UI when it comes to the masses. I've personally never liked Unity due to very inconsistent buggy UI,
