It's not that hard. And you get the benefit that they actually book the hotel room . I'm kind of mystified how Booking.com was able to say they booked a room at this hotel, when they apparently never even contacted the hotel to r

I've completely sworn off third-party booking services. They never know what's going on and when anything goes wrong they just tell you they can't help you. Then the place tells you that they can't help you because you

Not all methods of using energy require releasing heat to space. Solar energy uses heat and light that comes in from space and converts some portion of it to useful work, reducing the amount of heat that needs to be released to space. Tha

This is just childish. Written by a probably 20-something journalist who has never in their life been responsible for fulfilling a real human need. Without fossil fuels, civilization would grind to a halt. Billions would die. Yes, we need t

Impossible to say without knowing about things that are probably still classified. The failures become public, the successes would just kind of quietly dissolve into the background and maybe nobody would even know the CIA was involved. Succ

I was thinking specifically of Brasilia and the criticisms of it in the book Seeing Like a State , how the planning ignored the reality of how people actually lived their lives. It's also interesting that all the examples you gave as

The section of Seeing Like a State about Brasilia left me with the impression that it did not, in fact, work very well. I lived in DC for many years. There were people living there beforehand. It's at an intersection of 2 rivers. The

I don't think what I want matters very much. I don't live there and don't ever plan to. I'm saying I don't see the appeal. Was this something the people of Saudia Arabia wanted? Was the population clamoring to live

Oh, they'll build something I'm sure. Why anyone would want to live in a giant shopping mall in the middle of a desert in a country with an oppressive, theocratic regime I have no idea.

As someone who's wasted too much time arguing with people online, I find it very unlikely you'll change anyone's mind that way. If your values are so great, live them. Show by example why your values are the best way to live,
