Without education, people won't learn. I'm a fan of thoughtful UX but, frankly.. this is an area where caving sucks. Sorry. I'd have spent the time improving my password recovery service.

at this point there's no real reason not to use a random password generator for _every_ site. There are plenty of apps out there for auto login, and / or most browsers will do this for you. Yes, there's some pain syncing with mobile devices

As the person who commissioned the book at Apress, I can give a little insight into how this came about. I had known Mark for a little while and had seen his (then unfinished) work with DiP. I knew about the license conditions, and spent a

Wow. I didn't bother reading this post as the author's site is entirely cluttered with crap. Much better to read Ryan Tomyako's post on this: http://tomayko.com/writings/administrative-debris

Yeah, it's why you find a good third party mediator and ask them to be a non-exec or mediator/advisor. It also helps to have the arguments and tantrums early- at least you'll know if you can get over them or not before it's too late :)

shareholder meetings, properly run AGMs and the SEC are pretty good at weeding out boards who zig-zag or bicker. million dollar plus investments in companies with very little oversight are a different story. This is why it's called high-ris

the hack is that all the language in the piece is incredibly tied to Adam's writing. An over zealous fan? Perhaps. But hackers in the UK -- and all over -- who've enjoyed his work will feel some kind of connection to it.

I actually really like what Khoi did - remember, it's more about information design than visual identity that defines Craigslist- Khoi opened it up, added lines (helps the eyes deal with the immense amount of text) and called out important

Yeah, no kidding. Plus, adobe doesn't seem to have the money up front- remember, they asked their staff to take unpaid vacation this year-- this seems like a very strange way to say 'screw you' to their investors.

better: use some ec2 instances (stock, or custom) and run squid front-proxy. It's just as easy to configure and you get cache sweeping and so on for free.

I wish you were my teacher. That's a theory of education I've been pondering about for ages. Glad to see it formalized like this. Please consider running for office and fixing how we go about learning. :)

You're suggesting a write implies a read too. I don't know I agree with that- just because i 'liked' something doesn't imply I get to know who else did. The way I see it is that A's private details include her activities on the site (she's

Sure. but NoSQL kinda gives you memcache like awesomeness with some level of persistence. Think of cassandra as a more feature-rich, persistent memcache. :)
