It would be strength/brick use tradeoff. I want to know how that compares to just adding some rebar along the way

At cost of like 5x the space ? I guess if you have cheap land but bricks are at premium it makes sense

that has nothing to do with any single of those tools, just the fact of trying to manage firewall by more than one tool at once. Netplan technically could solve it but I have zero trust in Ubuntu not fucking it up or abandoning it in few ye

ebtables can, it inspects ethernet frames.

You could probably via ebtables as they inspect ethernet frames directly. That can be used for example to not allow VMs on host to spoof mac addresses. But easiest way is just don't allow app to run with permission to access raw socket

It's the fact that TCP/UDP socket interface doesn't expose macaddress, dnsmasq IIRC does the same

Not really. Just ufw wasn't made to deal with it.

It's probably ufw putting its rules in INPUT and OUTPUT chain and docker needing them in FORWARD. Don't blame ufw incompetence on iptables. There is separate issue with bridging aptly described here https://wiki.libvirt

I'm renting $15/mo 2TB atom machine from OVH/kimsufi as second target for backups. Now that I think about it... some kind of micro-distributed backup server (throw on few of your machines, auto-replicate between) would be a n

How tarsnap keeps backups readonly ? Just having service being a barrier is not enough

To be fair , any backup service should probably best have model of "pay per length of backup stored". If I want to store my 100GB of data now , and I want to have it stored for a year, I want to pay for that year's worth of

Sometimes customer wants containers; most of our (ops/orchestration) runs outside of container but containerising it (for same reason, one static blob) is easy But the code I nicked the example from was actually our internal k8s/d

That's the beauty! The build process is exactly the same for in and out of container stuff. In both cases result is either binary or binary + static files (nowadays, as it is mostly ops stuff, binary gets embedded static files). It
