This is one of my big things. I'm pretty into biking, so I go on longer rides during the weekends, but biking 5 miles each way between Mountain View and Palo Alto every day (for 50 miles total a week) can't be discounted.

If the implication here is that Sam Altman and OP are pompous enough to think we care what they think about the state of the Tech economy, then wouldn't the same logic apply to the authors who write "the Tech bubble is bursting! T

Are they more pompous or less pompous than the articles that show up every so often claiming that Tech is a bubble that's about to pop any moment now?

I am not an accountant, this is not tax advice. You're usually correct, except for two things (in the US): 1) Holding stock for a year before selling is taxed at the lower long-term capital gains rate (~20% vs ~39.6% at the highest bra

The people who are to blame are not the landlords that are merely reacting to market conditions, but the NIMBYs who refuse to let any development occur in the city or anywhere on the peninsula.

Mine failed literally the day after the AppleCare expired and thankfully the guy let me get it repaired as if it were under AppleCare. My understanding is that the store managers actually get a fair amount of leeway on this. Were that not t

I think the UI actually works for HN in the same way it worked for reddit back in the day. A very minimalistic interface lets the content be king and scares away people who aren't interested enough in the content itself. The one thing

I'm making a lot of assumptions here, as I'm not an expert on solar panels (took a class that touched on them once, but I'm mostly just Googling here): * Typical efficiency of a consumer solar panel to day is about 12% * Aver

I'll start of with something I think we agree on: I don't think this article belongs on HN. The woman and her PSA have nothing to do with Tech / Software / Hackers and it is a little bit too generic interest for the site

Slightly OT: I installed SwiftKey (currently the top option under iOS on this website), and I really like the concept (would at least like to try it out, even though I've developed a pretty good proficiency with two-thumb typing), but

I don't think Facebook is looking to optimize for those sorts of articles being shared on people's news feeds. It's far less likely that "short article with niche piece of information on specific case" will garner a

I dislike seeing this sentiment all over HN just because it isn't as absolutely true as everyone wants to believe. I work for a company with unlimited vacation, and in my first 10 months working there will have taken ~3-3.5 weeks of va
