This is no where near as big a problem these days with navigation systems. Of course, good cab drivers with the 'knowledge' will beat the navigation system ones a lot. At least now the bad cab drivers get you there now. Without having to

Ahead of time compilers do work quite well for a subset of dynamic languages. Just like tracing JIT works well for a subset. This has been proven by projects like shedskin, cython, and tinypyC++. Given typing information, either explicit

There's much better ways to make money as a developer than making $0.99 iphone apps. Compared to the app store, the global software market is a GIANT with its head in the clouds, where as the app store is a molecule of dung encrusted on a

I loved Kreuzberg when I stayed in Berlin for a month. Seriously considered moving to Berlin then. Hopefully will get to live there again for a summer month and decide.

A few months ago, I mentioned on HN that I've switched to bzr again... after having troubles with it a few years ago. Then someone asked me to report back after a month or so to say how I went. In short, bzr is going fine for me. I've had

Branding is where I think android will win. Google is better at marketing and branding than Apple. Also Android is cooler (sorry apple people it's true). Apple is now seen as mainstream, and boring. Finally android is technically superio

Expect to lose staff if you do this suddenly. I've been at a place where this was implemented... and in a few months a bunch of people had left. Many developers at companies just want to do development... and not sales and support. As us

'War is the cause of the economic problems.' That is likely another possibility. Massive spending, along with intellectual & political effort going towards something which takes away value - this is war.

hello, I do agree with you mostly, and in general I think that censorship is hardly ever good. In this particular case censorship was a force for good. As an aside, Google was running 'used aborigines' adverts from ebay for quite a while.

It is quite easy to time for yourself. Try timing it many times with a sig_bytes off by one(only one character changed). Then compare that with the correct one. You'll notice the (small) difference. There are no tests for it in the keycz

I just tested the python fix there, and it was easy to find the difference with the python function given. The solution is to rate limit, and add random small sleeps. A tiny random sleep stops the variance from a string compare showing up.
