In the literature this is called Gradual Typing. Or optional typing. Python uses it in the last couple of versions.

But does it work? It wins the most buggy database servers I've ever used in 20 years award. Is writing less than 20MB/sec of data something to brag about?

Weird. CC and CFLAGS should both work with standard distutils.

There are better taxi apps, and ride sharing platforms in Germany too. Something the article willfully neglected to mention.

The freedom of speech applies when other people than the government are calling for it to be stopped. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights for example does not say "it only applies to when a government are restricting those rights

Which law precisely are you talking about? Racist hate speech was already illegal in Germany. I'm genuinely interested if you could link to something describing what you are talking about.

Except when it is precisely defined in law. Which is what we are talking about here from the article.

Yes, it's not impossible. It happens all the time already. The HN system which allowed people to downvote you is limiting your speech. Facebook removing posts about sex is limiting your free speech. I find it really perverse that peopl

Except what counts is explicitly encoded in law, not what anyone makes up. "Are my posts, which openly express my dislike of elves, hate speech?" No, because that's really silly. The law would let you do that. If instead you

The title used here on HN is inaccurate, and not what was used in the article. It's not what is actually happening either. People can still say they don't want immigrants. What they can't do is ask people to burn down houses

A call for violence can incite violence. So, removing calls for violence will help reduce violence.

Yes, why was the title changed to "anti-immigrant" rather than the more accurate "hate speech" that the original article uses? Facebook previously would allow hate speech(like calling for violence), but take down comment

This is a much better article than the one from Gates. Thanks. The "Growth mindset!" safe word part at the end was quite apt. However, it's possible to get a LOT done when you're not growing. For example in basketball, i

It's also kind of funny that it's available in limited regions. Alpha, is what the Article says. Which means not ready, and changing in development quite a lot.

The article says: "We stress that this is a theoretical attack on the definition of security and we do not see any way of turning the attack into a full plaintext-recovery attack." ... which appears wrong, and even published after

System on a chip is already able to achieve much of this. Without having to completely retool. It's not impossible to combine memory with CPU and GPU on one chip. This is one way in which computers have been getting smaller and have be

The harsh circumstances probably meant they had to have a better product to survive. Higher employee costs, and a time zone 12 hours different means you HAVE to work/manage more efficiently.

They should pay tax at the rate set by law. Do they have a moral or ethical obligation to support the society that gave them life? Should the Australian government have supported them more than say the coal or car industry? Hell yes. This i

Seems like Australia should own a lot more. They founded the company there, took advantage of the country, and then made an exit elsewhere.

A parallel PCLMULQDQ version is faster than a serial CRC32. Because CRC32 has a latency of 3 cycles. A parallel CRC32 can be slightly faster with more data segment used, and more code size. Also PCLMULQDQ can use an polynomial I think. So t

Yes good point. Especially when the difference is not significant. I wonder if this is what caused the error in the article? Where they use 0.6 grams in one place, and 1 gram in another place. That's quite a difference.

"2.2 stone" is 13.97 Kg. I really dislike how the UK uses half metric system and half imperial. Such a mess. I wonder how much exercise which works on internal organs would help compared to drastic weight loss? For example, yoga.
