Other things like cache coherency, number and type of cores, other things running on the system, compression or reduction based on properties of the data all have an effect on what is possible. Not to mention weird things like some special

Check out co-up, a bunch of startups and community meetups happening there. The people there are quite well connected to berlin startups too. http://co-up.de/events.html

Water desalinization plants run over $4 billion easily. They do about 200 gigalitres per year. Of course these things will get cheaper, and you don't need to pay $4 billion, you can set up smaller numbers of them.

This company has been making pro digital video hardware for years. So I'd expect it's a high quality product. http://www.blackmagic-design.com/ Go Melbourne! It has quite a scene of small high tech video companies.

The OLPC has a battery, case, power supply, storage, keyboard, track pad, screen. It also releases source code to the OS binaries they ship. The raspberrypi needs a £150 TV, plus lots of other accessories to do anything. It's nice to see

Yeah, but Ubuntu is professional, well designed, and well made - by people who truly care about their users. You can't hold Apple up to the same high standards... they're just not in the same league.

Strangely Cambridge is the start up place in the UK. They get the most venture funding (even over London). Then tend to be in fairly hardcore technology though. I would call it Europes silicon valley, and not choke too much laughing, wit

This is a YC interview question. They lock you in a room with a pick, and if you can pick the lock you move onto the next stage. Otherwise the floor opens, and they feed you to the sharks (with lasers on their noses naturally).

I'm saying clients who would use the tool use IE8 and IE7. Basecamp is a project management, and collaboration tool - so unfortunately those clients have to be supported (unless you can fire the clients or upgrade them to a newer browser :

Well, it did have a whole IE support paragraph... so it is about IE8 somewhat. I have been looking at basecamp over the last few days too. So for me, this was the most relevant part of the article. Unfortunately some customers still use

Always sell your house to the first bidder. Always accuse the seller of having bad ethics, and turn it into a moral dilemma for them so you can take advantage. Always threaten their reputation. Always avoid using sexist analogies.
