Best of class UI requires at least 60fps consistently, not just for games. Of course JavaScript is not great here, but this can be achieved now on the latest mobile browsers. First run time is important, and interpreters are faster in this

The GC, and the JIT are the two main problems with Java for this use case. Both require pauses in execution, which for real time apps is a mode of failure. Also, doing things in separate threads means that scheduling of tasks also causes p

Java Applets were TERRIBLE. Seriously. Native apps, and web pages were better. If you had a $30k work station with 8 times the ram of a high end PC at the time they weren't too bad.

Background mode for apps! You know, so apps can be actually useful for mobile applications. This is the biggest missing feature by Mozilla, and it really shows their lack of understanding of how mobile apps work.

Java Is anyone really surprised that Java is not so good for interactive applications? It's never been in first place for that type of app.

Mining companies own, or control much of the Australian media. There was only one newspaper who didn't go for the coalition in the last election. It was the Age, which was mostly critical of Labor, but not entirely. There were big leg

People should be able to write on their blogs their thoughts. It's a really good way to learn, and to get feedback on your ideas. Hopefully Armin listens to people who have been thinking about this for a long time, and done work in thi

Knowing the people who have left Google, who collected a lot of that data, who we trusted, who are now gone, I wonder what other non-public data is being used, and how is it being used, and for only good purposes, or for nefarious purposes?

Yeah, the London tech scene is big. It's funny how meetups have taken over universities as the place to be for the best knowledge transfer. As you say, it is way easier to host things at companies, coworking spaces, coffee shops, and p
