That's cool! I was actually thinking of something similar, a game mode where you could take a control over a vehicle, like an excavator, and just have fun with it in the game, mine, dump, call trucks, etc. This could be even cooler in

Thank you! That trailer is actually nearly 1 year old now, it's from the pre-alpha stage of the game. Unfortunately, we had no time to update the trailer with all the new things. We are way to busy with all the release preparations. La

Thanks! I am curious, where did you learn about this game?

While being more realistic than other games, I'd say it is not realistic enough to simulate real open-pit mining. You would not recommend to plan real mining operations based on the results from the game. For example, the way how terra

I love factory simulation games (think Factorio, Satisfactory, Banished, DSP, ...) and one thing that I was always missing was a game with better simulation of raw material mining. Most simulation games have you just place a "mine"

This is incredible! Veritasium has a nice video explaining how those images were obtained and what they mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1bSDnuIPbo

Having worked at Google for many years, 80 char line limit was easily the biggest frustration with coding. Because of that, I was forced to write less readable code, shorten variable and function names, omit some comments, fight with format

Rendering only one large triangle can be faster than two. First one triangle needs less memory, less vertex processing, etc. Second, modern GPUs render pixels in groups of 2x2 up to 8x8 "tiles". If only one pixel from this group i

Yes! I wish this was mandatory world-wide! Just recently my shaver battery got to the point it lasts ~2 seconds on "full charge" and it is not replaceable. The charging adapter does not provide enough power to make it run. So I am

Recently I've found the Institute for Justice, a nonprofit that among other things fights to end civil asset forfeiture practices. They have so many heart-breaking stories on their youtube channel! For example, did you know that cops c

This is fantastic! After this is in, can anyone propose a better documentation syntax please? I am really tired of typing verbose XML as comments, and not even being able to write "a < b" or "T<int>" in my comme

I am not in any game dev discords. Frankly, I am having hard time engaging with the indie game dev community (be it on forums, reddit, discord), it seems that the problems I am dealing with (and could use some help with) are very specific a

Thanks for the clarification and you are right. I probably should have said that it is merely more realistic than other games in this genre. It's great to hear from other game devs! What is your game called?

I am not sure what do you mean by "realistic spacing/placement of structures", could you elaborate? Do you mean that in reality you would not build a farm next to a blast furnace? That's true, we did not implement any me

Me and my friend are actually working on a somewhat similar game called Captain of Industry [1]. The game is less about automation and scaling and more about realistic processes, mining with excavators, trucks logistics, and taking care of

That is interesting, so could you replace the biggest and most powerful internal combustion engine in the world that weighs 2,300 tons by [whatever powers] turbopumps from a raptor engine and get the same power output? Where is the catch? L

Interesting read. I'd argue that there is also a third price -- the price of getting rid of it. While throwing something in a garbage may be "cheap", there are many hidden costs, especially for the society as a whole. I have

They achieve this by "charging cable that can deliver a current 4.6 times that of the fastest available EV chargers". However, that also means 4.6^2 = 21 times more losses in the transfer cable since losses are P = I × V = I² × R

I find TGA very useful when in need of image output and without easy access to a proper image lib. TGAs are trivial to output just by writing RGB values to a file with a simple header, no encoder needed. I am so glad that many image viewers

On Windows I use henrypp/simplewall. It is lightweight UI on top of Windows Filtering Platform. My only complaint is to all the self-updating programs that keep changing its binary and I need to re-enable them periodically...
