If I'm reading the high-level description correctly, the plan here is for this thing to be one giant centralized instance. Can anyone verify that I'm reading that right? Not that I have any pro or con feelings towards this architecture, j

Yea, I'm having trouble figuring out what's going on in this article too, maybe I'm slow or something. Are they going to webcast this or do I have to show up in Virginia?

I agree with you, I actually have a G1 and love it, the problem that I see is that if this behavior is tolerated by Apple, then other carriers / handset makers / marketplace maintainers could start to adopt a similar mindset. Google has tha

What a crock. Not being a dick to people let them sit in their stupid comfortable IE6 for the last 8 years blissfully unaware that they were holding back advancements that would make their lives better. If I try to run new software on Win

If the above is the only reason to quit PHP I would advise against doing it. This is a rather small issue, you could switch to other languages and have any number of small issues. Oh, somebody monkeypatched this built-in function, should

The problem that I see is that Apple has no business being in the censorship or rating business period. Sure there are "business reasons" to perform these roles, but they are antithetical to a free society. The free market answer would be,

Eclipse hooks into your command line java compiler, that's why you define it in your preferences. There is also an environment variable CLASSPATH that you can set that the javac command-line command will use to resolve jar locations

I am a programmer by trade but still find myself writing a copious amount on paper, I like the tactile feel. My writing is a mixture of print and cursive. I think that when hand-written notes and letters were a major component of communic

Unless I'm missing something, can't you just define a classpath and put your jars in there, then javac will look there first. I did all of my development work in Eclipse and it did a lot of the heavy lifting to give you nifty things like i

Looks neat but this definitely has very little to do with logo. Logo was basically a kid friendly interface sitting on top of a very Lisp like language, this is much more like @dustmop says, Game Maker or Klik & Play.

Yes yes a million times yes. I've looked at Sass before but its HAML syntax made it less than appealing. This is beautiful, its just a smarter CSS, leveraging everything you already know about CSS but with the things you wish CSS had.

Its an interesting discourse. I'm not against people designing alternative solutions when they find the defacto standard is lacking (jQuery UI). The benefit of having a standard "batteries included" solution can't be denied either, look a

I like the fact that neither person really has anything of value to say, and both end up doing it in a dick way. Also the ruby guy loses points for his blog exploding under the massive HN load, now the C guy (who's blog is still up) can us

I like how ZDNet decided to combine the worst parts of a lightbox and a gallery to make this a torturous exercise in page loading and mouse dodging. What a half-assed fail.
