Looks like you live in Portugal. Do you feel like no one is forcing you to use the euro? > Who's even talking about replacing their national currency? I’ve heard from people close to the project that this is Facebook’s explicit long

Does anyone know if they use encryption and access control to granularly regulate access to data? For example, the part of the system that feeds data to advertisements shouldn’t have access to my private messages (in my view that would be a

I think it’s because the profit motive is only sometimes incidentally aligned with the goal of technological progress while publicly-funded researchers have progress (and often actually bettering the world) as their primary goal.

Whatever the policy on the books is, we have a pretty clearly different actual policy resulting from the way ICE chooses to enforce the law: brown people who want to live here are treated strictly and with hostility and white people who w

People are coming here because they think they can find a better life. What is the argument for trying to stop that? Also, the phrase "illegal alien" is extremely dehumanizing. These are just people.

This is about what capital funds, not the labor market. Given how unorganized it is, workers mostly just have to work on whatever projects get funded.

Maybe you mean the legitimacy of majoritarian rule? And even more, representative majoritarian rule. Democracy is the idea that people should have a say in how their own lives are run, the exact mechanism could be many things.

Types are definitely an ideology of sorts, but that’s not a good argument: gradual typing is complicated and creates a lot of challenges for e.g., compiling fast code.

We use monads extensively (with monad syntax provided by the ppx_let extension) and OCaml also has a sophisticated module system that is useful in a similar way that type classes are. I would say type classes and a good module system are es

You can almost do this in OCaml using GADTs. The only trouble is you won't get nice "string syntax" for your format specifier. The idea can be seen here: https://github.com/bobzhang/ocaml-book/blob
