I see this sort of defense a lot, and I find it interesting. Some party does something many would find ill-conceived, reprehensible, or in some way greedy. Some other people come out declaring that the action wasn't illegal. It's

I think you may have misunderstood me if you boiled down my point to an existential question. My point was that directing to Google or documentation is a basic misunderstanding (or simple forgetfulness) of what it means to be a beginner in

The problem, I believe, with this line of thinking is that at a beginner level one simply does not know what to Google. You need a certain foundation to be able to simplify the problem down to a few key words. You need to understand the p

I think the problem that krstck is trying to address is not so much that the anecdote is invalid, but that prefacing it with "I'm a female programmer" colors the rest of the anecdote. Instead of it being a general anecdote wh

As far as I'm aware, the author was using optimizations in quotes ("optimizations") to parallel the previously defined C* and "C" distinctions. Hence why section 2.1 is called 'Optimization* and "Optimizat

Genuine question: What do virtual objects enable that cannot be done through the Trait system?

As you can see here[1], it's because the author utilizes C++'s templates and C++11's atomics. But eschews the rest of C++ in favor of C using specific build flags. [1] http://genesisdaw.org/post/progress-s

Rust has good C FFI. The Book ( https://doc.rust-lang.org/book/ffi.html ) itself says that Rust is not able to call directly into a C++ library.

No discernible pattern and the numbers very quickly get large, I imagine. 2 is always even. 3 only gets to 30 after 3 x 10. 4 has a quick pattern (4>8>2>6>0>..). 5 always ends in a 5 or a 0. 7's pattern is long 7>4>
