Do you have kids? It doesn't work that way. It will never be urgent enough to waste time even for setting up the alarm or prompt. People vastly overestimate free time when you have kids. They somehow manage to eat up every single minut

For europeans - you'd have to go to southern Greece islands like Crete to get below 37th. Even Athens is 37.59 and northen Greece is 40 and above. So basically most of the Europe won't get enough during winter.

Tried to open DuckDB file with one table with 890K rows and about 30 columns. Process stalled, had to kill it (MacOS). DuckDB cli opens it in a snap.

I'm recent convert too. I used to work with SQLite for querying datasets but for my usecase DuckDB is much faster plus CLI is nicer to work with.

The question I replied to was about charging other devices from laptop. You can charge your other devices in your bag with battery pack, not dangling from your laptop while you're charging them.

The price of RAM is absolutely bonkers though. If i ever need more than 16GB of RAM and more than 512GB of storage, I'll strongly consider moving back to Thinkpads or something.

Having used second hand laptops almost exclusively for 20 years and having helped friends to do the same I'm pretty confident saying that 90% of the time the slowness is botched Windows installation and the lack of computer hygiene. No

Why add another layer? Right now the only tool he needs is an editor. That's it. Can't get any simpler than that. He also probably has a set of templates by now.

With Rider or VS Code on Mac? I've been wanting to play around with C# but I already have Intellij Idea Ultimate subscription and I'm hesitant to add another one. I'm wondering how good of an experience would VSC be for C#.

We had CGI program written in C in production in 1999 or thereabouts. Worked fine. The problem was, that there was only one person who could understand it and update it. It was ditched at some point in favour of PHP I think.
