I'm happy for any improvement to the chaos but I that statement about "fancy" shortcuts doesn't meam they're getting rid of any. Keyboards are the fastest way to navigate a well designed system. Also I hope this doe

I setup a server and got three engineers connected in an afternoon. I've never been that successful with an IPSec deployment. The hardest part for me was coming up with a way to link IPs, keys and users. I wrote a small Python script a

Similar to what I've done. Applications have a unique source repo. Each rep has a build dir. Build dir contains a sundir for docker build, terraform configs (if needed) for dependent infrastructure and a helm chart for deploy. I have

This feels like 'light news day" item. I have w number of things that are 10+ years old. I buy new pants when they too worn out to leave the house. I buy shirts when I don't have enough industry handouts without holes. I can&

Google's perforce client wrapper was thousands of lines of bash for a long time. It was both amazing and terrible. It stood up to thousands of engineers and was easy to customize, if youbwerw good in bash. Fun times...

I worked there in the early 2000s. It was fun. Then it wasn't any more. I was much earlier in my career and when I left, having it on my resume meant a lot. Now I've done more and more interesting things. I told the FAANGs, i

As an employer, it felt equally as hostile. Every process was riddled with more process. Approvals were miles deep. Getting appropriate hardware and software that wasn't on The List was nearly impossible. Good times were had by all.

Have you thought about storing your secrets in SSM or Secrets Manager, giving you lambda role(s) permissions to decrypt and using the appropriate APIs to call them? I use SecretString in SSM for a lot of things and it works quite well. The

I'm shipping a test appliance out this week but we haven't completely locked on a production OS. This feels like an interesting path. Host level data persistence isn't something I need or desire, so a RO filesystem is perfect

To be fair though, I don't think we're meant to live in tiny boxes at all. Spending all of our time under a roof and wrapped in walls, with climate control, doesn't seem all that normal, when you think about it. You're n
