I just don't understand that market. From the article: "(...) Twitter missing market analysts' revenue expectations of $456m by $20m (...)" - so one hour before, everybody was expecting $456m and held the stocks, now it&

The problem here might be that those startups, at the time they got acquired, were not perceived any more as startups.

The colors are just like back in the cold war. The blue are the "good" nukes and the red are the "bad" nukes. That's what it looks like.

Is it just me, or did anybody else see here a comment from a Google dev just one minute ago, stating this was "just a simple bug", going to be "fixed in short time"? I refreshed the page and now it's gone. Edit: wel

That animation doesn't resemble a water wave at all. In a water wave, every single point of the surface does a circular movement (elliptic in shallow water). This resembles a transverse wave at best. It doesn't even look like the

Very nice. But strange things happen in the "car" demo if you put one car on top of the other: they try to throw off each other like horses.

Thanks all for the answers. I find neural networks and AI such an interesting topic, wish I had more time to go beyond science journalism to learn about it...

I know literally nothing about this science, so that paper had me concerned about the following question: Given a visual face recognition door lock or similar system. If I want to break such a door lock, can I install that system at home, t

I read it in the wired.com article about this also submitted to HN: "And [Vinay] Shet says even the tiny movements a user’s mouse makes as it hovers and approaches a checkbox can help reveal an automated bot."

OK, got that. Did some further reading (again) on the topic and it's still about 4 km/s to reach the orbit. People are working on it, but for what I read it looks hard to overcome for 2030...

I wasn't thinking about the whole journey back home, just the first part of it which looks damn hard to me: how do you get a space craft away from Mars? You need to reach escape velocity, and that's 5 km/s (> 11000 mph). Y

There's something I always asked myself about Mars expedition: well I kind of believe that it's possible to put somebody down on Mars within the next few decades. But... what about coming back to earth? Escape velocity is about &g

Out of nothing, I'd guess their MRU worked by just pushing an incoming free connection on top of a LIFO stack, while for the "most recent request sent" strategy you had to keep track of request timing and insert incoming free
