Do you have a source? Mandela himself was pretty clear on violence being a tool to effect change.

Ghandi may disagree. Maybe not, I'm weak on history. I don't agree the end justifies the means, maybe you do, it's far too easy to get into a debate on morality in these topics. :)

War is terrible, no matter what. The laws Mandela broke were not the same ones he thought were unjust, at least, it seems he broke a superset of the laws he thought were unjust. He did this as a means to an end. I'd like to say I belie

Can you elaborate? When I visited South Africa, a few white people used it to refer to the non-whites. I do not know if they were just trying to be descriptive or discriminatory. Perhaps it didn't mean what I thought it meant.

I don't know anything about the laws being enforced. My point was, it's hard to argue that "the moral thing to do" is to harm others or destroy property.

There seems to be revisionism on both sides. Before yesterday did not know that Mandela started the armed branch of the ANC which actively bombed government buildings and while Mandela was in prison (and maybe not involved) bombed public pl

Mandela was more than happy to use violence against the government as a tool in his cause for equality (although later he seemed to regret the need for it). Using violence, he broke reasonable and justified laws. Laws such as planting bombs

I play chess, but not very often anymore. In my peak I drew an IM during a simul on ICC, but probably was only rated 1800-1900. I stopped studying it and took up the violin because I got tired of sitting by myself for hours. With music I ca

Ah, yes, but since I'm an American the idea of learning a foreign language was not impressed on me as I was growing up. Contrast this with some Europeans I run into on my travels and they speak 2, 3, & 4 languages.

Armenia requires chess in schools for at least two hours a week ( http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/feb/07/chess-d... ) and they consistently are one of the top countries in the Chess Olympiad.

Paltry sum for book publishers, maybe. It's too easy to self publish these days. Several HN posters have written there own books in a relatively short period of time and made >25-50k, which is probably better than their hourly rate.

The difference in speed between Python and PHP should not be a deciding factor in choosing between the two web frameworks. Many of the core PHP functions are implemented in C directly, so they are very fast, but once you add a framework int
