I was one of those people up until around a couple years ago. Now I don't even know what I thought was such a big deal. The Jetbrains Toolbox makes it really simple to launch and update the individual IDEs. My employer pays for the ult

I'd love something like this packaged as an offline only desktop app. I can't trust any third party to protect such personal data about myself and the people I care about. I suppose there's the option of self-hosting and allo

I really enjoyed the book, Seven More Languages in Seven Weeks and regularly recommend that to people looking to expand their arsenal.

All in One (AIO) also known as a closed loop cooler for the uninitiated. They're water coolers that come in a single pre-built piece that you just attach like any fan. Source: Been rocking Corsair AIO coolers for around a decade now. I

ANSI escape sequences. Your terminal interprets them like move cursor to row x, column y. Set color green. Etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANSI_escape_code

What does cost mean here? Performance? You do not pay a performance cost for borrowing semantics in rust.

Given a mutable vector: c++ will let you push_back while holding a reference to an element of that vector. rust will not.

Marking it as const will not allow you to push_back. c++ has no problem letting you maintain a reference to an element in the vector while calling push_back.

It's way too easy to do something like this in c++: auto v = vector<int> { 1, 2, 3 }; auto &e = v[0]; // plan to use element later // ... v.push_back(v.size()); // ... c

Within this thread someone pointed out https://github.com/cgati/yes/blob/master/src/main.rs . This rust version gives me 7.81GiB/s versus GNU's 7.54GiB/s.

One reason that comes to my mind is more control over resources. You can be sure the memory allocated for the two vectors in main is freed in add_first_element.

I would love to see this land in Java. Pattern matching is one of my favorite features of Rust.

Better integration within the Rust library ecosystem. Instead of having to install a C/C++ library through my package manager, I can just add the seahash dependency to my Cargo.toml file and cargo will handle the rest.

I currently manage an oVirt installation and was surprised to see almost 20GB of memory allocated on the management node before I had a single VM spun up. It's not light, but it is powerful. Makes resizing disks, setting up networks, c

This is so true. One day a couple years ago I decided I would work through the pain of sitting up straight. I think it only took around 2-3 weeks of sitting like this for it to become comfortable.
