I agree with your assertion, FWIW. I'm just pointing out that the article incorrectly interpreted Rocky and Karate Kid. The article says that Karate Kid is misleading because it shows people achieving expert skill in two months time. The au

Rocky and Karate Kid aren't good examples because both stories are about underdog characters who's will and determination overcome their lack of skill.

So, my 2 cents: First, sign up with as many ad networks as you can. Then, note the CPMs that you are getting with each ad network. Finally, chain the ad tags together using minimums and redirects. For example, say you've tried 5 ad networks

I agree that it is bad to preannounce specific features, but you've misread the article. What the article advises is to share is a one page "product vision or roadmap". I'd imagine that this one-page lays out what the problem space is, and

It's stand-alone now, but I'd bet that it's part of the plan to link it to google at some point. That's the way these things go.

They can vote. Even small groups of people can do interesting things in local elections with low turnouts, for example teacher's unions and school board elections.

I don't want to belabor the point but it goes against evidence. For what it's worth I went to law school and graduated with less than 100K in debt, as did most of my peers. And this number is also in line with national averages if you cared

Law School programs are all 3 years. Graduating with 200K of debt is really unusual.

There would be stagnation if the economy is a closed system. But in a world with multiple economies, the ones that channel income into accumulating more income-producing assets will grow their income faster than the ones that don't.

That's called a consumption tax, which has a lot of intellectual advantages over the current regime. Income = Consumption + Savings. Right now we tax income, but it's possible to tax consumption instead. That would encourage more saving and

While we are talking about screen - I'd really like to be able to highlight text in VIM (using the visual mode) and then be able to paste that into another screen. Does anyone know how to do this?

For reference, stackoverflow.com and reddit.com give a banner on the top of the screen that is sort of a faq for first time visitors. It seems like a reasonable thing to add to this site - tell people who've never been to your site about it

Some suggestions: - get your friends to add their cars to the site, and make sure they use your code on the forums they frequent (I'm assuming that you link back to modslog) - make the value prop clearer: add a car, share the details online

I recently changed my user name from antiismist to idoh. When I moved the karma setting to Diamonds in the Rough, it listed idoh as the #2 most similar user to antiismist. Nice! http://www.swimwithoutgettingwet.com/hnusers/?user=antiismis.

My friend and I tried something similar. It was a site that started off blank, and then we'd only build some subset of features that users requested. It didn't turn out so well. I learned that it is a lot easier to request a feature than to
