This is for the PNW. The Bay Area is south of that. We won't be hit by one that big. "The big one" here will be an 8, not a 9.

Ah, Spectrum Holobyte. Such a great version of Tetris. Sadly it doesn't run under SheepShaver (hangs SheepShaver), and the music, arguably the most unique part of that version, didn't work under Classic. I downloaded WAVs of it a

I don't believe we'll actually see it on wireline internet service. And it's already legal on mobile in the US, but we don't see it because it becomes more uneconomical as connection speed gets faster.

Huh. Last time I looked, Google was actively discouraging people from using its NTP servers, as they weren't terribly reliable (lots of intraday drift). I guess they fixed it?

DeX is okay. As an Android developer who's had to support it, I'd say it's similar to Chromebook (as an alternative to Android phone/tablet development), except it's got its own set of undocumented idiosyncrasies. H

I think this would be more accurately titled "Kant was racist, and so are several other modern philosophers and their readers" but that wouldn't be as good clickbait. The whole first quarter or so of the article is about the

It seems like a ridiculously inefficient system you're promoting. Why should companies be forced to risk spending millions developing a product using only a best-guess system as to actual demand for a potential product, when they could

It seems the core of the objection is "billion-dollar companies using crowdfunding platforms violates the spirit of crowdfunding platforms". Doesn't seem to be much in the way of hard evidence as to why it's a bad thing

The narrative part of the novel is fine. It's about 80-100 pages of a good thriller at sea and morality tale of revenge. The problem is that the book is 500+ pages, not 100. The other 400 are a tome and treatise on whales, whaling, and

Swizzling is not the only thing that would break. You'd break categories in dynamically loaded frameworks or bundles, and yes, you'd still break KVO because it replaces -dealloc and -class on the newly-created classes. You'd

But then you can't call those methods from C yourself (expecting va_list, received arguments). And what about adding methods to classes from plain C functions? Do you duplicate those functions with a va_list version? Seems like that&#x

fptr doesn't take a va_list, it takes the actual arguments. Also this would leave useless objc_msgSend stack frames at every other level of the stack. There's no way to force the compiler to generate a tail call from inside C. Add

Given the other revelations of the last few weeks, I have to wonder if these exploits are getting installed on every phone that the CBP demands people unlock. Seems like the obvious thing to do. Best not to trust your phone or any software

This is really cool. I've wondered occasionally whether something like this might be possible, but this looks like a really spiffy implementation. I wonder how hard it would be to add Mach-O support to it...

I like this metric better, although I'm wondering if the rectangles should be similar, not just having parallel edges. That should put Turkey and Portugal up at the top, if you remove the islands.

For me it's interesting because getting to the truth in a complicated case is like debugging to find and fix a single specific bug in a large codebase. But I'm also weird in that debugging is one of my favorite parts of the develo

End of an era indeed. I read this site religiously back when MacRumors only did rumors and not news, so probably 1999-2003 or so. I assume MR starting to do news was the reason I stopped, but I actually don't remember. The thing is tho

I don't buy it. Yes, the language may be C, but if you're linking the ObjC runtime and frameworks, all you're really avoiding here is the nib-loading machinery. To be fair, I think that's a perfectly reasonable goal in a

Does the account earn interest? Right now I have an Ally savings account I transfer a percentage of my revenues every two weeks, so I'm earning 1% on my tax bill. It's small, but not irrelevant.
