I think maybe they’re implying that if the experiment lacks value, funding for it will dry up and our simulated reality will get shut down. So it’s only the end of the universe as we know it. I’m sure that doesn’t matter…

Please clearly define the meaning of “you” in your simple law. Literally me? Okay, I don’t own 50% of the market—my company does. Oh you mean my company? Okay, my company doesn’t own 50% of the market—each of my companies only control

I’m quite sure I don’t want a different bespoke UI for everything. And given the non-deterministic nature of these models it’s going to be different even for the same task. Now instead of hunting for the right buttons after a software “upda

I dunno. This one seems trickier to me. Since it’s not really the code that’s the key part of the AI—it’s the trained numerical weights. Can you read and write in this language of floating point numbers? I doubt that. So perhaps yes you can

Yeah, not sure why it missed it. But when prompted with the photo and "What's funny about this photo?" GPT-4 replied: "The humor in this photo stems from the anticipation of an unfortunate event that seems likely to occu

I think because professional artists can’t typically make their software tools. Whereas engineers could in theory make their own tools. Naturally few do in practice though as tech has become far too large and specialized. But our roots are

Where have you seen it go from B to A successfully? Several states already have mandatory minimum wage laws that apply to waitstaff. The local culture of tipping still expects you to tip these people—I’ve had countless arguments with people

What utter hypocrisy. Does Israel recognize Palestine as a state? I think not. Not surprising of course. The US has always been biased in Israels’ favor.

They did in fact. > Methods: We recruited healthy adults aged 23-35 who identified as women currently using (n = 62) or having used (n = 37) solely combined OCs, women who never used any hormonal contraceptives (n = 40), or men (n = 41).

While they’re non-deterministic at a token level, they’re also still pattern following systems. Prompt Engineering is about (a) getting more deterministic outputs from the model, (b) using the models’ own bias to get more useful output, (c)

It’s not rationalization. It’s preference. There were plenty of templating languages in Javascript before React came along.

Maybe because you’re thinking of it like a template language. It is not. It is JavaScript through and through. And mapping over an array is quite idiomatic. So are ternary operators. If you really prefer you can pop that out into a for loop

They’re referring to a method of prompting the model that encourages it to think through something step by step rather than spit out the answer. I think this is the paper that really kicked off this technique: https://arxiv.org&#

They’re sails in this configuration—nothing more. They harness existing force of wind. They get spun up and if they spin the right way they produce a force perpendicular to the wind. The magnus effect is a byproduct of laminar flow of fluid

So then generating a term paper becomes a 2+ pass problem then. First have the model generate the outline, then have it generate each paragraph in the outline. Then have it offer suggestions and revisions when you put the whole thing togeth

This is humorous, but also about on par for ads these days. This wasn’t possible a decade ago. I don’t doubt that some teams are going to get a lot smaller as this thing rolls forward.

Ha, maybe. Or perhaps creation to the creator is like breathing to us. Do you remember how many breaths you took yesterday? Or maybe there is no creator, only a self-creation.

That might be true from my own frame of reference but not so to an observer, right? How can we say there are 3 spatial dimensions at all if what you say is true? What you’re describing suggests there are an infinite number of dimensions bas

Is this really true? I can imagine a vector, [1,1,1] in cartesian space. Scale that vector by c and you are now going light speed in all three spatial dimensions.

Decent article. Was going to post a comment about how terribly wrong it could go to have each team pick their own tech stack, force the client to download all of them, and run them in a shared environment. Makes me shudder thinking about it

Why do you believe that to be true? If there are no physical ports then all data transfer and access must happen wirelessly which means there must be means to connect, and extract data wirelessly. Sure, maybe there’s a temporary reprieve un
