I've spent time with both of these frameworks and the answer is "it depends". I'd recommend Play! over Lift if: * You just want a data entry / CRUD style app * You prefer MVC architecture - Play! will feel pretty familiar if you

Excellent point. Not being a Rails guy I sometimes forget that being opinionated is considered one of its strengths. If any framework can get away with doing something like this, it'd be Rails. At any rate, I'm excited about anything that i

I think a side effect of kids growing up with computers is that CS doesn't carry the same social stigma it carried 10 or 15 years ago. It's much less common to see a programmer portrayed as a fat, slovenly nerd as it used to be.

Don't you feel it would have been more prudent to start by bundling CoffeeScript support and then changing the default in a later version? It seems like an overly aggressive goal to do both things at once.

Now I have to put on my fruity hippie developer hat. I feel like it makes a big difference when a language implementor values beauty in code. CoffeeScript was created by someone who values the aesthetics of code, and it shows. The CoffeeScr

Oh wow, that is strange. Bundling CoffeeScript support is an great idea. Setting it as the default seems very non-user friendly to me. I love CoffeeScript, but if I was just picking up Rails and felt like I had to learn it I'd be pretty dis

Yes, CoffeeScript is amazing. No more headaches over missing semi-colons, callbacks feel significantly less "spaghetti-like". Syntactically it feels much cleaner and I've found that I end up staying much nearer to the left margin than I did

I made a quick site a few months ago that will let you search for stuff in other languages on Twitter - it translates the results back to English for you. For example, here's what Japanese people are saying about Fukushima: http://twitmers

Coda's talk was really, really good - especially the parts where he talks about taking measurements in a meaningful way. I think that the talks are being recorded; it would be worth watching the video even if you've gone through the slides.

It was certainly more interesting then; I wonder if it's because the community was smaller or because the topics were more focused. I don't value HN as a resource for entrepreneurship anymore. There are some interesting technical conversati

What do you gain from using this vs using GMT for everything? At least with using GMT universally your clock still works.

You can't call it realistic unless you know what the investors know. I have a hard time thinking that Color could be so amazing that it warrants such a huge early investment, but it's not realistic for me to say that Sequoia wasted their mo

Did anyone find a link to the CoffeeScript he used? He's linking to the generated js, but it'd be cool to see the CoffeeScript.
