Excellent! Thanks for the information; to be honest, I hadn't looked and made an erroneous assumption. I had let the HN bubble affect my perspective, too, so now that I think about it I had an awkward view of the scale of cities across

Very true. That the roads between these cities mostly go through sparsely-populated rural areas helps. EDIT: Though, the point I wanted to make was that it was an abstraction over the longer distances between the cities. To rephrase my exam

Any time I see stories of how crazy the situation surrounding the SF housing market is, I compare it to my own city (Amarillo, TX), which has the opposite situation. A much smaller population over a larger area with plenty of land to sprawl

To me the article treads frightfully close to conflating "push email" (being notified immediately when a message hits the inbox instead of polling at regular intervals) and "push notifications" (the medium of the actual

What I imagine for the mobile clients is that it would be a window to the files in your Plug. You can stream whatever you like from your Plug with internet access, and download whatever you have room to store for offline use.

This is why I added an Adblock exception rule to allow ads from Project Wonderful. From what I can tell, PW's network only "targets" by matching sites to ads by category, which is decided by both the site and the advertiser.

From the article: "I will not, in this post, be talking about many of the new VS 2013 features that are unrelated to the Application Lifecycle workflows." It seems that the OP talked about what the blog's focus was first, then will come i

I've seen it both ways. There's also the possibility of the lowercase form changing to uppercase with even more programmer assumptions about surnames always starting with a capital.

Is there a relation to Google Talk for those outside of Android/Gmail web? I was under the impression that every XMPP app on iOS just stopped working properly a year or so ago. (In fact, this was a primary reason my sister went from iPhone

I really like this, but I'll have to give it another try in a few hours after work when the HN rush subsides and gives the server some time to breathe/compile the challenges.

I love this idea and have this bookmarked. The only things that make me hesitant to sign up are: (1) I'm definitely not conversational in any language other than English. (I'm very slowly working on Japanese, but I haven't really built up m

I can't help but think that statement is similar to saying, "Letters are a perfectly valid means of communication; I don't see the use of these telephones."

Fair enough, but what about other people's actiona regarding you? I might not say a thing about that sweet party I was at the other night, but what if my friend snaps a photo and tags me, like in the story here? I haven't delved into the se

I was under the impression that these were the user-facing side of Promoted Posts that go to friends of friends. So I see that one of my friends liked the GRE several times. But I also see "Sponsored Story" under that line, so I ignore it a

I had put some thought in that direction, and thought about finding companies that made DAWs. However, this space turned up dead ends, at least when I was looking. The other thought I had was indie game dev, which I thought needed a bit mor

That's the idea I have at this point. There are parts of software I enjoy - why the hell else would I stay in a degree program with a ~20% retention rate? - but it's not something I find quite inspiring at this point. But another thing the
