Oh it's just odd/funny to me that a graphics processing unit is not very good at processing graphics (in single cases) compared to a central processing unit.

So counterintuitive that nvenc confers worse quality than QSV/x264 variants, but it is both in theory and in my testing as well. But for multiple streams or speed requirements, nvenc is the only way to fly.

I wish I could move off NewRelic. Every time I post about it (seriously, check my post history) over the years, HN commenters try to convince me that it does automated metrics almost as good, or just as good, or even better. Once in awhile

Almost no one thinks about the modern miracle that are grocery stores. It wasn't that long ago that getting out-of-season produce was literally impossible. Today, you just put up with inferior tomatoes in the winter and be annoyed abou

I tried this, shared a terminal, asked it to talk about it, and it guessed that it was Google Chrome with some webUI stuff. Immediately closed the window and bailed.

Yeah, I've had no issues sending tokens up to the context limit. I cut it off with a 10% buffer but that's just to ensure I don't run into tokenization miscounting between tiktoken and whatever tokenizer my actual LLM uses. I

Nice use of an LLM - we use Groq 70b models for this in our pipelines at work. (After using WhisperX ASR on meeting files and such) One of the better reasons to use Cerebras/Groq that I've found so you can return huge amounts of c

No RBAC is sad, though understandable. Wireguard is so much faster than OpenVPN. We use Wireguard for S2S but unfortunately need OpenVPN for our employees and contractors due to RBAC. All posts and writeups we've found trying to shoeho

Groq is legitimate. Cerebras so far doesn't scale (wide) nearly as good as Groq. We'll see how it goes.

I'm a happily-paying customer of Groq but they aren't competitive against Cerebras in the 405b space (literally at all). Groq has paying customers below the enterprise-level and actually serves all their models to everyone in a wi

We've replaced most of our RPi units with the Beelink SER MAX 5 or whatever at $300ish price point; just too good of a deal (and all of its hardware works with Linux, unlike some other MiniPCs). But we still use RPi4/5s when we wa

Yeah, I don't think I was ever charged interest on Apple products either, but I wasn't paying that close of attention. I'll have to go back and check to see if I can get a sweet class action payout.

Continue.dev's plugin is as close as it gets for Cursor, but there are clearly limitations to a VSCode plugin when it comes to the inline editing and code search/replace - made a comment above about it.

I used this while Cursor was broken (Pylance problems), but Continue's code replace tooling sometimes will delete huge swaths of adjacent code. I've filed a comprehensive ticket in their repo and they're working on it, but I&

This system works extremely well unless you have a LOT of small files (like 200-400k or more). Then, unfortunately, it stalls/breaks in very weird ways. We had to move on and go with more manual synchronization methods like using roboc
