At this point, time would be better spent moving to IPv6, don't you think?

I have my own Wireguard mesh network between my home network and a couple of VPSes. I configured it all manually, too. I'm basically running a virtual public network and have it routing a /24 (BGP announced at the VPSes) back to

Many of these arguments are context dependent. If I embed an iframe, then ask a user to log in / provide credentials to whatever is loaded into that iframe, I can see the argument since it is difficult to for the user to verify the ori

I'm one of the few that likes the gmail interface, I guess. Whenever I'm forced to use Outlook's web interface, I want to vomit.

I spent almost 10 hours at a coworking space and didn't even worry about charging my M4 MacBook Pro. Apple Silicon is a game changer: incredible performance and long battery life, generally totally silent, no thermal throttling. 10 ho

I loved the original AIM. I remember using it from roughly 1999 to when it was finally deprecated in 2017. Almost 20 years!

True, true. I remember writing full blown applications as perl CGI scripts, back in the day. I should see if I can dig up some of that stuff.

It's not the end of the world, but it's annoying. I used to work at a place that had a huge monorepo with tons of dependencies. Poetry would sit there grinding away for 4 or 5 minutes. With smaller projects, I agree it's not

This doesn't make much sense. With physical access, I could easily just download python and do the same thing. Or anything else.

/usr/bin/python3 is showing 3.9.6 on my Sequoia 15.5. That seems... ancient. I'm using 3.13 for all my work and personal projects.

It seems that way! I briefly experimented with it when it first came out, but never used it in any production code. I've never seen it used by anyone else, either.

uv is soooo much faster than Poetry, especially for dependency resolution.

Sure, but you could've done the same thing with perl in the 80's and 90's.

Having worked with Lambda since it was announced over 10 years ago, it was also clear to me. However, I can also understand if one was new to it and read zero documentation about its execution model, they might be confused. I'd expec

This is true, but it's not just that. How many useless cable TV packages are people paying for, on top of Netflix, Hulu, and tons of other streaming services?

After fixing internet for some neighbors and older relatives, I've wondered if people would pay for a home network / internet handyman service. It's super frustrating, especially for older folks. They often confuse their emai

Also, keep in mind that APRS is generally 1200 baud (though I did see some mention of 9600 now.) This is way worse than anything most people experienced during the dialup Internet days.

If we go back to 1990's tech (example: BBSes, IRC, gopher, HTTP sites with little to no javascript), possibly fine. Today I see static web sites built with heavyweight JS frameworks that load multiple megabytes. You'll be waiting

Yeah. As a teenager with an A3000 in 1991, I still would've loved to run AMIX though! A couple years later I got a used 386SX and played around with early Linux distros.
