Well, I don't commute to Soma but yeah, fair point. As I once was told, live where you work or where you play.

There is also the sunset which has good food, cheap rent, and the M, L, K and N to get you places. But the issue here is there is nothing good in soma besides jobs. In the weekend, I don't want to go to soma. I want to go to Northbeach or t

I skimmed it and I definitely don't understand. I saw mention of asynchronous, but it looks like it's for video not for text?

One thing a lot of people seem to be arguing is that Thiel is only advocating certain people not go to college. Thiel in this video, and in most articles / videos I have seen him in, advocates that the reader shouldn't go to college. Does a

While I don't know why the poster put this up, one could argue that hn is about learning from others opinions, victories and mistakes. Here, we are given a chance to analyze two great chess masters and replay their strategic battle. What de

This is great. I think the key point of this, is that you gain nothing by keeping your code squirreled away, but there is a very small possibility someone else might need something similar and reuse your code if you do put it out there.

Thank goodness. While I don't think everyone should learn to code, I totally agree that we need to support those who want to learn. Thank you Zed.

Not sure, that is an interesting number. If they had 20,000 devs, with an average boot time of 10 min, at $5 a min (which seems high, if it's just salary), then it would cost them $1m. But given that developers don't work 24/7, and I also t

This is so wrong. If you read the comments, or any of the actual terms of service, you'll notice the author is actually cutting out the parts that make these TOSes all identical. For instance, the Google one has: "Some of our Services allow

This is a cool handbook. I wonder what the frustrations are that come with this? As the book says, Valve sucks at disseminating information. It'd be interesting to see if there is some sort of pervasive feeling of "why didn't I know about t

Oh for sure, I was just curious about people and the platform. It's the only listed metric below a creators name, so if you didn't know who he was, it would be hard to verify. That being said, I've already donated to this.

Does anyone else find it awkward to back a project where the person running the project has never backed another project? I'm stoked about this project, It's just a feeling I've noticed consistently when looking at Kickstarter campaigns.

Seems like a cool idea, but would be way (I've never even heard of the pip command before) better if it could be installed in one command. See http://betterthangrep.com/ , https://github.com/defunkt/gist or http://beginrescueend.com/ .

Yup, and remember, Google, Apple and Facebook are all afraid that all of the smart talent is starting to build companies instead of coming to work for them, so their recruiting is increasing to deal with that. To continue the analogy, big c
