There was a little bit of facetiousness in there, sorry if it offended you. I haven't seen many +100 vote posts with "why" posts, so I was more thinking about the posts that have no comments, or at least none than really contribute anything

I find that it's pretty easy to determine what is on topic. I usually click through about 60% of the articles that make it to the front page, plus a few random new articles from time to time. 95% of the time, one makes the realization that

I totally agree. I currently am a student at a public university, although on the other side of the country, and this behavior in any of my classes would result in the teacher refusing to enroll a student in the class. You are older than 18

"After a transition period of about 10 years, this release disables SSH protocol 1 by default." I'm sad that this hadn't happened sooner, but I guess as they say, better late than never.

This is true they don't explicitly say that. Just like food doesn't explicitly say this is edible.

"We've got a really great suggestion for how to make such an assurance: Find a less abominable DRM policy." I don't see how Ubisoft isn't getting sued for this. Here, you can own this object, it and everything on it are yours. But, if we de

I'd focus really heavily on "stay immutable", "use recursion", and lambda functions. I think these things take a little effort to get used to, especially if you are stuck heavily in a certain programming paradigm as many Microsoft focused g

Yes, and I don't think anyone is hiding this. New Urbanism exists to turn areas which previously were only sparsely dense into much more populace areas. If you want your private property, you'll now have to move farther away from the curren

What amazes me about this short is not that they satirically covered the news, but the amount of clips and actual people they were able to put together to make the segment really work.

I'm not sure if this is really an innovation. Trac has had something similar for years. Github is arguably doing it better, but in the source control world, this isn't that original. As for the API, I agree. Although I'm not sure how much m

Adobe gets so much hate, in my mind, it is worth their time to fight all of the unsupported bs that is thrown their direction. I mean if you called my mother a whore everyday for 10 years to my face, at some point I would punch you. This is

I'm generally not a big fan of Spolsky's writing. He tends to read too much like a sales person, and too little like an engineer for me to enjoy his writing. This is a great read though, even if you already switched to git, because the two

In the end, most of the big browsers are open-source, so I guess you could try submitting a patch, but I agree with most the answers here about performance, laziness, and the fact that users don't care.

Interesting. I really didn't know they had given most of this stuff back, besides webkit. Also didn't know that about CUPS, thanks.
