I'm a computer science student at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Our department is very focused on C, and we do a lot of embeded and Operating Systems level C. I love it as a language, and I think that is partially due to the amount we use it i

Well, I would specify a good functional language as one I enjoy coding in. So far that has been SML/NJ and Racket (PLT Scheme). For some reason I did not enjoy F#, and I blame that more on the strangeness of the .Net libraries than the synt

Anyone else bothered by the opening quote? Why are people learning about hygiene in a university? I thought we were taught that in the third grade...

I used it in a computational finance class about a year ago. I develop solely on Linux, and although it was painful to get working, it definitely wasn't the worst thing I have had to do on Linux... The actual language was weird. Apparently

Uhm, This was about three hours worth of work, and never came back to it. http://prj-megan.heroku.com/ source is here: http://github.com/icco/Project-Megan . I have no doubt someone could blow this up.

I don't think that's the point of this article. The point is that you need to be able to talk to your co-founder about technical and non-technical problems. It's not that you should become so technically sufficient so that you can be the te

I do the same but with an x200. It kicks ass and I do Linux kernel hacking on it all the time. Compiles a full kernel in 15 minutes. It also has a 128GB ssd like the air.

You recommended six good books on founding companies. Would you recommend any technical books or works of fiction?

This sounds like it would be easy to make an app for it. Just let everyone vote for their favorite bar for a drinkup in SF, and a day, and then you all show up.

Interesting. My entire upgrade took 52 minutes, and only had two prompts. Two more than I'd like, but two compared to the 20 someodd I used to get is great.

That is weird. I'm also creeped out by any company that has as many 'advisors' as they do employees (10 emp, 13 advisors). But then again, maybe that is how these companies work...

Ya, I had never heard of Plan 9 until I started doing graduate work, and then one in ten papers somehow referenced plan 9, and almost every single operating system paper references it some how.
