So I'm guessing you were 28-38 when you learned TeX, rather than 60+. If you were over 60 in 1985 and are still posting to HN, that would be really cool.

I think the point is that it is retiring the full featured v4.3 and replacing it with the Beta version that is missing features - the big one for me was that I couldn't share my screen.

It is worth mentioning that the school in the article, Barrowford primary school in the UK, was given a 'Good' (2 on a scale of 1-4) Ofsted report [0] in 2012, then in 2015 (just after the 'heartwarming letter' went vira

Parents on the side of sports games seems to be a problem the world over. I've heard of it directly in both Belgium and England with Football (Soccer) games. Parents will subvert the will of the coaches wanting their kid to shine rathe

There's a relevant TED talk about this on teaching 'grit' [0] (a mix of passion and perseverance). I find her arguments quite convincing. And I think like a lot of learning and any pathways in the brain - this is something yo

I too would get very angry from being bullied. This is actually something that would entertain others at school - seeing how angry I got. What you didn't mention in your original post was that you'd done most of those things out o

When 90% of the people around you are all wearing some shade of blue jeans, its a bit the same as everybody driving around in cars in some shade of grey (which they do at least in Belgium). That is, it's just really boring. Colour is o

As far as I can tell, it's run for employees by employees. If it ever starts doing more harm than good, it will just stop. People have to want to submit and want to read it. So I don't see this as management sponsored spying, just

So am I. If you check the second map from my previous comment it's of Europe from 2011 [0]. There were 5 >300 km/h trains, and 4 of those are in France. But I think the market they're aiming at is more US - it's more

I know very little about this - but casual Googling suggests helicopters aren't necessarily better. This Quora answer from 2015 [0], suggests $6m for the Augusta 109 [1], that has range of 982 km but has a speed of 285 km/h. So t

I don't know which land you're from, but in the US (I assume the main market) almost all trains have a max of 177 km/h [0]. There are about 4 lines in western Europe that go faster than 300 km/h [1]. [0]: https:/&#

The speed isn't ridiculously low compared to the Phenom is the only point I was making, certainly considering that it's half the price. The range can be extended to 2,200 km if it's just one person flying.

I'd imagine you wouldn't buy this plane if that was a concern. So you'd be only looking at flight times of a 2-3 hours. It'll do roughly 700 (2 hours) - 1400 (3.5 hours) miles [0]. Depending on weight and speed. So see

I assume it's a last ditch manouvre. Planes are designed to glide if the engine fails [0] - so you'd do your best to get over land / safe and then pull the parachute. But also I assume if it did land on water - you might have

The difference doesn't seem huge, not considering the price. Phenom [0] vs Vision [1] Phenom: - Price: $4M - Capacity: 1 pilot, 7 passengers - Cruise Speed: 750 km/h - Range 2,182 km (4 x 200lb people) Vision: - Price: $2M - Capac
