But it's not perfectly legal if the patent is valid. The infringement would just be against the original company if said company hadn't been bought. Or are you suggesting that when a company is acquired all it's patents should become null

Do you think Samsung's 3G patents cost Apple as much as they want charge Samsung for rounded corners?

Gooterola (Moogle?) clearly is abusing FRAND obligations on some of their standards-essential patents. As far as I can tell, Samsung is trying to abuse some of their FRAND standards-essential patents, too. This is probabl

And it has also been said before that addressing subsequent questions _without_ answering that one probably changed the approach to subsequent questions.

How is that App used? Imagine being at launch and you get a new notification. What do you do with that kind of Information? Why do you want that? I for one would want that because we're so separated from our actions that even t

I second this. On Ubuntu 12.04 Unity crashes after approximately 20 days of uptime and that's Almost the only time I restart Firefox. I regularly have a single session open for weeks.

This always puzzles me too. I start firefox maybe twice a week across 2 or 3 machines, then just let it run until an OS update requires a reboot (or in some cases when it's using > 1.5G of memory which is rare and may stop once I upgra

As a programmer you're going to have a hard time convincing me that it's not.

As some people have pointed out this is a bit of a simplistic analysis, but I find it encouraging that Google is doing this. The state of Maternity leave in the U.S. is frankly appalling. My wife (a nurse) is currently pregnant and her Ma

I would find this pretty annoying personally. Not only that but this is how the pizza joint around the corner advertises(literally). Is that really the feel you want?

The point isn't an appeal to authority, it's that the author is a supporter of open source. Not Microsoft.

I agree this makes a lot of sense from a Microsoft perspective, not so sure it makes sense from a Valve perspective. AFAIK it's still a privately held company, Gabe & company seem forward thinking eneough that I could see them telling

I completely agree with this. As a programmer HUD is the only thing keeping me on unity. Gnome 3 is _way_ more stable on all of my computers and I prefer it aesthetically.

Depends on what you mean by better hardware. The specs will probably be better, I have a Thinkpad and it would have cost me twice as much for an equivalent Macbook. That said, the build quality of the Thinkpad isn't even close to the MacBo

"Me, not really interested in what people who never wrote any widely used software consider more what and less what." This argument is getting really really really old. Anyone with 5 minutes and a working internet connection can find hundr

I'm wondering about the answer to #1 as well. After trying this out for a bit there's nothing obvious and there are definitely things I miss.

I am wondering the same thing. Aside from being an impressive CSS3 demo what are the practical implications here? Will this make my site load faster compared to a js version? Will it likely be more responsive?

I'm honestly surprised to see people make this claim still. I only pay substantial attention to the Haskell community and there are a lot of high quality non trival projects built in Haskell. As another comment mentioned, Yesod is one, bu

In my experience this hasn't been true of (some distributions of) Linux in several years. I've talked to a lot of people who hold this opinion and they generally haven't tried Linux in 5+ years.

A lot of the comments here compare this to saying a man is sexy and conclude "it sounds a little weird, it's out of place in a professional setting." This completely misses the point that in our culture women are frequently (practically _al
