i didn't have the need to use pgbouncer yet, so i never really figured out its cons. (nearly) no prepared statements is a big down, but if you design your db with functions (i.e. you only do "select get_my_data();"), it fortunately doesn't

yes, that's possible in a pure referential transparent language (strict or lazy is not the point).

remember that we are talking windows here. which libraries do you have to patch for firefox (i.e. those they do not ship and which are not in the core win os)?

i guess (s)he meant: why not implement that standard in firefox now. that would remove the lock-in to ie as well. (it might not be possible because of patents, etc. but the government should -of course- be able to fund it.)

that's a good article. small tools that do one thing well can also be optimized pretty nicely. unix is a nice philosophy indeed.

oh. and erlang is not event-loop based. it has preemptive multitasking for its threads. so it is not as necessary in erlang than it is in node.

why? what about the usecase i presented? mysql-workbench is no cli app. still, i'd like it to support multi-hop. and it should do so without me configuring it separately. edit: to make this more clear. of course a heavily sandboxed app migh

"having dependencies that have to be compiled increases the risk of something going wrong". come on. reimplementing crypto is way worse. re .ssh/config: application level libraries might need it as well. one of the many grieves i have about

i am familiar with erlangs ports. why shouldn't the same work for node? (and btw: cryptography might take a big computational chunk. it's hard to write cpu-intensive stuff in node's callback style. but i guess the person(s) doing it will so

ssh is pretty hard to do right. i will never get, why platforms have to stay "pure"... and implement everything on earth another time within their platform instead of calling reasonable external c-code (or anything else for that matter). i

i don't really see why this might in any way be significant. (and why should customers of esx be worried now? it's not that they employ security-by-obscurity, or do they :D)
