which? i prefer _writing_ tex as (nearly) everyone, but read the mozilla thread for arguments, why there is nothing else that might work.

and there are very many arguments pro MathML in it as well, which makes the reasoning seem not so well founded. to quote one rebuttal of every point the thread op made: 1.1. you make a point against adding unnecessary typography. Mathematic

the difference is the discussion that happened, where also mozilla employees weighted in to support mathml. there is afaik no open discussion in chrom(ium|e).

> awk '{print $3}' is the same as > cut -f3 -d' ' cut is amazing for what it does. and most people know only the subset of awk that effectively _is_ cut anyway :D.

standard ml (and thus haskell) has total type inference. the problem in haskell at least are extensions which ruin some inference.

that's interesting. i did not know that shortcut (well, it doesn't work with vi keybindings), but that sounds useful. that was not the whole point though.

no you are not. but some one-offs are good enough to reuse, but not good enough to open an editor for, depend on environment variables (which might be spelled out in the command), or something. so although i do use a pretty well populated ~

no that is something different. (at least the joint campaign had pretty much no arguments, whereas the submission raises a few doubts, to say the least.)

nested sets are not generally faster. for anything which is not "get all direct and indirect children", they are slower than common table expressions (recursive queries). in databases supporting cte's, that is.

well. of course knowing oop is useful. but why the modula flavor and not the smalltalk flavor? vtables cannot be used with message-passing object orientation. shouldn't students learn lambda-calculus? shouldn't you teach a functio

but the '++'-part does not help in understanding the machine, does it? (i like many new-in-c++11 constructs so don't get me wrong. but they further abstract from the machine.)

c++? hardly. maybe c, but i'm not sold. why not say assembler "is a must for understanding how a program works"? because when you are talking about the underlying machine, that's what you mean. but if you are not speakin

i didn't like the article much and i won't go into detail about it, because: the discussion below is great! brendan eich is debunking most of the article himself.

thanks for your reply. i am interested what you have to say about sqitch. i'm interested in using it myself, but don't have complicated things in postgres to do :D so i'll hardly see its possible shortcomings.
