I see Panoply is part of this effort. Panoply creates a lot of spam on hackernews, reddit, twitter, and elsewhere. As an example, doing ETL with drag n drop tools, and not in code, is a dying skill in the industry. [edit] Basically I'

It's Oct 31st so this thread seems like a good place to post Airbnb horror stories. The first Airbnb I rented was part of an interview at Airbnb. I was given a credit for a free Airbnb for the purpose of experiencing the product. The

This article conveniently overlooks problems when remote workers need supervision to keep them in line with expectations. I’ve had both good and bad experiences managing remote teams. The difference seems to be the quality of the remote wor

This brings back memories of a common exploit w/tftp, such that you could download an unshodowed /etc/passwd file from a remote machine, decrypt it, log into that remote system, collect new hosts from /etc/hosts, th

"SQL queries don't start [optimizing] with SELECT" The title is missing a word. Interestingly, part of the industry is moving towards databases that optimize themselves (ex Snowflake & Oracle Autonomous Database), plus p

Musk thinks like a software engineer. Create simple, reusable, components that can scale efficiently. I’m taking some liberties in saying this, but the gist remains the same. Musk keeps it simple and focused.

Very cool that you can go between drag-n-drop and code for development. How is Prophecy different from datacoral.com or Astronomer.io? Will it be open sourced (ex, dbt, airflow, Dagster)?

Ah yes, the home contracting industry is ripe for SEO due to so many long tail keywords. A project I'm not proud of managed to get 100M pages indexed (about 1% of Google at the time), all related to home contracting services. This wa

This is true, and DMOZ was used heavily by Google's earlier search algorithms to rank sites within Google. Early moderators of DMOZ had god like powers to influence search results.

One comment is CTEs don’t use indexes, so you may want to avoid using them in production code. That’s something to consider if you may need to port code to/from databases where indexes may be available.

One possible solution is a junction table: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Associative_entity An RDBMs within indexes is probably fine.
