Someone suggested they were used to estimate distance which might be true since some modern guns like mp5 have rotating drum sights of same principle. Another good suggestion was that it was used for knitting, there was a very cool video of

I agree to some level, but crypto and NFTs also have value without network effects present. You could even argue that without network effects AI is also very limited: way less users -> way worse models. It took OpenAI to commit capital f

I think it does. Startups, VCs and media still provoke hype trains. People cherry pick and extrapolate everything in AI as well.

Crypto and NFT situation happened because of our society, media and vc/startup landscape who hype things up a lot for their own reasons. We treat massive technologies as new brands of bottled water. Or, actually, as a new hype toy as f

It is great to make chatbots in my opinion. Personal automations, AI, etc. I have friends who use it to prototype products and it works using n8n as backend for users. I mostly don't do this, only prototypes that only I can access. It

There are lots of AI nodes which are both very convenient and are great for learning how all of this works. Vector storage integrations etc. I'm not affiliated.

Recently started selfhosting it. I like it. I tried hoarder, but it was overcomplicated and consumed way more resources. Now it got MCP, so I might use it with n8n, we'll see. A couple improvements I'd like: I want drag-and-drop l

So much this. Two weeks ago I learned that en dashes are used for numbers, but I thought they are what em dashes are for. Em dashes for me are too long and ugly.

Wow, this is SO cool! It looks better because you can see the details of objects far from the 'camera'. This is basically what you do when you are there in reality, constantly refocusing on objects. This perspective trick to me is

It's not really obsolete, animation studios (and especially indie) still use the same things. There are those who only use modern tools and digital (which is mostly drawn frame-by-frame as well), but it's more like it's split

I read a study about athletes given either a strong coffee, placebo, or a caffeine in capsule form. The study suggested that even if coffee had less caffeine than athletes got directly in a capsule (and measured in their blood) strong coff

Somewhat true back then, but I think now there are more people who would pay for it, and they could capitalize a lot on integrating LLMs into RSS apps.

I realized I was reading too many websites and decided to switch to RSS, only to find out that Google had killed Reader a month earlier. Years later, I came across Artifact, created by the founders of Instagram, and thought it was an intere

I live in a major city where people also don't use cash. Some older people still do, but absolute most transactions are cashless, especially if you'd ask eg a coffee shop or a restaurant. It is about 99:1 - 97:3 ratio of cashless:

I found the reason [1] for the David Mayer case. It confused multiple David Mayers, one of them is a terrorist and is on a secret FBI watchlist [2] (often confused with another David Mayer, a theatre historian). ChatGPT confuses them with D

It also refuses to say 'david mayer'. Lower case letters encode to different tokens than capital case, so the problem is not in tokenization. I also tried to talk to ChatGPT about this in Cyrillic and it made lots of errors and so
