Yes, this exactly. If you want to dig deep into computer science history, you’ll note that LSF was once a slightly modified Condor. There’s a wild history between the two and U.Wisc and U of T.

But in a world where you're continuously deploying on a cadence that's incredibly quick, how do things differ? I contend the batch and online worlds start to get pretty blurry at this stage. We're not in a world where braggin

Pre-MS acquisition you used to be able to use Cycle Cloud's software for ~free without support. Unfortunately it went all-Azure-only post-acquisition.

Yes, it can scale based on metrics. And metrics can be anything. What it’s missing is all the discovery and network plumbing to tie running instances together with load balancing and inter-service comms. Googles old Borg paper mentions Cond

Few people outside academia, maybe? But inside it still seems to dominate in areas like physics computation. CERN uses a world wide Condor grid. LIGO too. It’s excellent for sharing cycles for those slow-burn, highly parallel, massive data

Apple Music, and therefore the Music.app, is still the best solution out there if you want to bring your own content and have it accessible via streaming from a number of devices. Spotify has serious limitations on bring-your-own-tracks tha

You still have smart playlists in Music.app, but that Music.app no longer handles means you can’t use smart playlists for organizing audio books. There’s a separate Books.app now that handles both eBook and audio books and it doesn’t have a

Voice control quickly falls apart when you’ve got a car full of kids. Having to tell everyone to stop talking so you can turn the wipers on is just plain bad design.

This is it for us. I’d happily drop my ICE minivan for a similar electric. Doesn’t need to go fast. Just needs to hold the family, the luggage, the dogs. I need function, not luxury. Model Y could be interesting. The new Pacifica is steppin

2 years ago I started using a sleep mask to black out the room at night. It's amazing. Mask goes on. Mind goes quiet. I go to sleep. And as a bonus: no more dry eyes in the morning.

I don’t disagree with the imbalance or odds. Impact required to be that highly paid an IC usually boils down to “create the thing the company earns a large portion of its revenue selling” which is tough to do, especially more than once.

Yes. The second highest paid person at Square is likely an IC. There are a number of year zero ICs there still that aren’t reporting to Jack. Exclude the CEO because it’s a singular position. Only one person can be CEO. There’s no IC equiva

If you exclude the CEO at many SV companies there are most certainly ICs who make as much as people at that level all over the Bay. Certainly that’s true at Square.

JIRA could work better in this situation if it allowed for deeper nesting of tickets. You could still capture the larger user story and then subdivide below that level into smaller stories and then features with tasks.
