Thanks for the info you guys, I didn't know this. At work I generally have 1-3 large workspaces open in the "Java Enterprise" version of Eclipse, hence my warped perspective, maybe...

I normally don't use it for more than 20 minutes at a time, so I'm not too worried about this. I'm still waiting for AR - my dream screen is contact lenses with embedded displays floating over my retinas :-)

That's an interesting point. I guess the compilation job queue, which itself sounds similar to punch cards through a mainframe, has its modern equivalent in running large MapReduce jobs or load tests on EC2... not something I would want to

Hum, funny you say that, that's exactly what I'm working on: http://code.google.com/p/hotrepart/ The idea is to repartition a DB across multiple hosts while it's running. It's only a demonstrator project right now.
