A bit of a late response, but yes I've been storing full text of every website I visit and it's excellent for finding stuff again. The idea is to index pages as you visit them using a browser extension, thus avoiding all the pitfa

I would assume it runs on the edge, since it runs in the browser via WASM. It's also implemented in Rust, which provides some flexibility. It will likely depend on the specific edge runtime though. The runtime would need something rese

Yeah, thanks for linking to the issue. I'm one of the upvotes on that. However, the age of that issue suggests to me that current contributors are (or have historically been) uninterested in a REST API. Still, would be great to see suc

I've used it for about a year. ArchiveBox works well. My only complaint is that there's no JSON API to trigger archiving a page--it's primarily a CLI tool despite being built with Django. This can be worked around of course,

Curious how this works. I've experimented with in-browser vector search using victor[1] with mixed results. Hadn't heard of this orama lib before checking out your project. [1]: https://github.com/not-pizza/vi

I'll second the chorus of those curious to hear how you've customized the search engine. I was able to reproduce the lackluster results, and was sadly disappointed. I expected what you seem to have found, that Kagi would outperfor

This game will suck you in. It's wonderful. A great holiday game actually. Good timing on this post. I first played it because I heard it described as "Factorio lite", which seems fairly apt after playing it. It's not ne

Not currently, but it was initially built with that in mind. Namely, i used web extension polyfills to unify the extension API of Chrome and FF. However, while trying to achieve MV3 compatibility I used chrome-only APIs because the polyfill

For that I would recommend Orion, since it uses the same underlying engine as Safari but can run Chrome plugins. A Safari-native extension would be interesting if it could also be used on mobile, although I haven't looked into how that

yup, it's on the todo list. I started building this with cross-browser in mind, and later stopped using the generic web extension APIs to get everything working. getting this working with manifest v3 was a pain, but doable. now that it

This project came about because I wanted to search over things like HN comments in my browsing history. First attempts were via CLI tools, which required making a request to fetch HTML. This doesn't always work and correlated with an i

Thanks for creating the benchmarks, I hadn't heard of most of those libs. I seem to remember that modernc worked great until i added a FTS5 [1] table and things became very slow. This was a while ago now, so it may have changed or I ma

Cheers! would be happy to have contribution. I've been using it for longer than the publish date. A few months at this point. It's also roughly twice the size it needs to be I think, as the FTS index could be optimized. So there&#

It doesn't take up too much space. Currently about 70mb on my system. It will grow over time of course. It used a distilled version of the web page, i.e. "reader mode" and indexes that rather than the full HTML. So yes it ind

Would also be curious. Wondering what the state of the art is for local vector stores. i.e. the sqlite of vector stores.

It used to be that you could create a Hackintosh with cheap hardware. Had a really fast "mac" this way a few years back. Unfortunately since apple is moving away from Intel this may not be viable anymore.

Keyboard Maestro is excellent. Makes automation on macOS way more fun, IMO. One nifty feature I haven't seen mentioned yet is that it can click on the screen based on OCR. So, if there's some UI element you want to interact with a

Thanks for elaborating, that makes sense. Historically WebSQL would drop a real live SQLite database onto the disk (in some application support directory for the browser) which was very convenient for exactly this use case. It's unfort

What are the limitations of OPFS not being a real file system? 100% agree that the file system API ergonomics make it unusable as the storage layer for a local-first application. OPFS seems promising though, which is why I ask the above.

Recently I discovered there's no more "Non-commercial" lens. I'm still a happy Kagi user but I found that lens helpful for avoiding over-SEOd sites filled with affiliate links and was disappointed to see it gone.

Web devs still have to pay an unfortunate amount of attention to Safari if they want to support mobile. Admittedly, they're unlikely to test against desktop Safari but it's the same engine as the mobile version if I'm not mis
