My understanding is that the overwhelming majority of Federal employees on official duty from FBI, DHS, DOD, NSA, etc.. that attend DEFCON (and related conferences) are actually not agents at all, but rather low ranking analysts whose job a

I'd bet most laptops/PCs sold in the last 4 years have included at least 2-4 GB of RAM, 60-100 GB of HDD, and a relatively fast processor. Aside from gaming, most internet browsing can be achieved with devices that came out in 200

I sincerely hope that Ecuador denies his request and he is deported back to the United States. In his Q&A, Snowden said the United States was worth dying for. If he truly wants things changed, he certainly won't achieve it hiding i

If anyone turned it into a Kardashian spectacle it was Snowden himself. His video interview and Q&A have only served to publicize himself. He could have easily and safely leaked incriminating documents to a journalist and achieved the s

Definitely a possibility. If that is the case, what is PRISM's responsibility then?

But still, NSA would need to know the entire IP range of all public facing servers, their purpose in relation to the service (for example, which IP range handles Gmail vs Search). Plus, if this were a store-it-and-forget-it situation, PRISM

If this were happening at the packet level, PRISM would need constant maintenance for each service, and a MUCH higher budget than $20mil a year. Think about it, to be effective, you'd need to parse the format at which the data is sent.

The theatrics around this entire story make me question his true intentions. His answers today are anything but straightforward, and the majority of them don't actually deal with information he leaked, but rather his opinions on survei

Something to consider is that the trend the past year has been to use headless browsers over BeautifulSoup, cURL, etc.. because headless browsers are harder to detect by anti-scraping systems and can interpret JavaScript.

I don't think Snowden would have any idea whether the audits were effective or not. An analyst in the position of auditing is likely segregated from the employees whose searches are audited.

BAH, SAIC, CSC, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman are all infamous, when it comes to software projects, for being completely incompetent. What you've described is my experience as well. 9 times out of 10, when a project actually ne

If anyone is interested in an alternative to the usual RTMP servers (FMS, Red5, and Wowza), I highly recommend EvoStream ( http://www.evostream.com ). Compared to the alternatives, EvoStream is much more efficient. I believe TinyChat publis

Whoops! Didn't see that :) To be fair, I didn't see the pricing page at all. I did see the 0.8c on the Buy Number page. I suppose 0.8c is accurate, but you'd probably be better off putting $0.008 instead.

Native Twitter iOS app vs the HTML5 Twitter app. Native Twitter is great. Very snappy, great UX. If, by chance, you click a Twitter link in Safari on iOS, you'll be facepalming as you wait.
