This is really cool. I went to add a concert with time/date but landed up getting lot of videos that didn't meet the criteria. The concert was part of Osheaga (a festival in Montreal) but the listing shows up as Parc Jean-Drapeau, where the

I personally learned from Skienna's other book Programming Challenges first ( http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Challenges-Steven-S-Skiena... ). Then when my knowledge had matured a bit, I was able to digest The Algorithm Design Manual

Agreed but you have to keep in mind what the algorithms are being used for. You're going to have better luck implementing Dijkstra's quickly in a competition than you are A-Star. Not to mention A-Star is based mostly on heuristics and if yo

Seriously, it'll be worth it not to learn about manual memory management. I believe he's making reference to the inclusion of automatic reference counting in iOS 5.

I really wish that there was an auto-update. I've been using the beta for some time now, Jon's amazing constant updates actually becomes frustrating because you have download an installer every update. I would buy a license in an instant if

Couldn't disagree more in Canada. There are lots of young people sporting Blackberrys (lack of cash, praise of BBM).

If you participated in Facebook's Hacker Cup, you should definitely give Code Jam a try. It's much more organized and the problems are always interesting :)

As an ICPC competitor, I don't even find these tales all that cautionary. It's a well known fact that those who do best in standardized tests do not excel the most in the workforce. Programming contests are no different. And to be fair, I'm

I find it entertaining that Java's apparent successor will be, in many ways, a copy-cat of modern C#. It wasn't long ago that C# was created in Java's image. If this language is not continually enhanced, then it will fall behind. Java has a

I would make the argument (as a 20-something) that there are far more 20-somethings on Tumblr than there will ever be on Posterous. Posterous has always felt, in its design, to be minimal and content based. It is not about posting cool phot

I never really understood why companies don't just take a non-trivial real problem that they have run into during development. Just ask the candidate to talk it out, see if they are able to at least get on their feet toward a solution or an

Ha, I'm surprised how simple the algorithm to generate random noise is. This is really cool though its applications may not be too widespread. I find with solid colours elements that slight noise can give it more of a body.

One thing I am surprised to not see in this list is that, as an individual, you are required to have your form faxed back after been signed by a notary. AFAIK, this is not practice of Google or Apple either.
