Best policy I've figured out as a developer dealing with product teams is demo everything in a command line until the backend actually works. No chance for suckass product guys to push if they can't understand what's going on

That was an incredible rollercoaster ride of stuff that's absolute garbage art theory and stuff that's genuinely insightful. I went from, "WTF is wrong with you?!" to "That's a really good explanation of how th

Apple having a major flaw is a pretty bad mark against this. But in my experience, companies doing it themselves are far worse. The correct response to "Yo, they fucked up." is not "Oh screw it. We'll just do it ourselve

This is a real wat. You think the tech industry is almost entirely based in San Francisco? Only about 1% of tech workers are employed by companies headquartered in Silicon Valley, let alone San Francisco. The absolute vast majority of techn

I'm not totally against GraphQL in general. As an alternative to REST it can sometimes make sense. And let's be real, most REST APIs are absolute garbage. Anything would be better than a bad REST API. And if, in fact, you are stor

Even though I like Python a lot, I clicked on a reply to this comment because I was absolutely certain I was going to have to disagree with you. That just didn't seem possible. But . . . I was wrong. That third link with generics mak

Reddit is one you might have heard of. pypi.org is another that's familiar. You know, every time you type `pip install x` yeah, that's pypi. Although I think those are both powered mainly by Pyramid rather than flask. Still, same

That quote is sort of exactly what's conceptually wrong with what's goin on in my opinion. Yes, I know, armchair quarterback and I'm not the one out there building stuff like this for free, etc., etc. But claiming some nebulo

There are lots of production sites that serve 10,000x as much traffic as sourcehut that are built on Python/flask/sqlalchemy serving RESTful APIs. If you can't make that combination work well, there's another place to lo

Well, that's too bad. I always thought this was a cool project. But if you can't dev your way into decent performance for a small alpha project using python/flask/sql, I don't think your tools are the problem. And I

Not sure if this is what antirez had in mind, but when I'm working on stuff, I whiteboard (if I'm at home--and who isn't these days) or write in a notebook. First thing I figure out is how I want to interact with a thing. Whe

I'm excited about this. Can't wait to see what performance looks like. As for the effect on sales, it's probably a wash. For people who know and care about these things, I'd imagine a 50/50 split between people raci

When you say you have 25 million records per day, taking 25 GB of disk space, can you clarify what you mean by that? Does each day of 25 million records take 25GB of disk space? Or are you saying that it cumulatively takes 25 GB up until no

No one accepts "It's not x, it's y" as correct. Well, maybe some illiterate Philistines do. But no one really thinks that's correct. You have to put a semicolon in place of the comma or it is just plain wrong.

Meh, I think the title of the article is misplaced. Developers don't need to care about threat models. Developers need to care about the attack surface their applications expose. This article feels a lot more like it's directed at

RethinkDB is a better solution to every problem that MongoDB claims to solve. I wouldn't use it for everything. But once my need for a document store outgrows what's convenient and easy in Postgres with JSONB, I reach for Rethink.
