I recently did a fresh install of creators update on my laptop. Not only does it have crapware bundled that I had to uninstall, it has placeholders for apps from store which is literally advertisement. I also got edge ads when I was downloa

As terminals are basically text-only, to display symbols that powerline uses you have to create a font containing those symbols overriding some of the characters in it.

You may also try vs code, in my opinion it is better than atom, albeit not as flexible. Much faster, though.

Problem is, as author stated there is no such solution right now. It's all about trade offs and in any case you got to sacrifice something . Sure, solving this problem would be amazing and good for all but I know I'm not up to ta

You can make an app that runs like shit with any technology possible, it's not the fault of technology itself. I mean, in the article author was suggesting an option of redrawing the whole window at 60 fps which is also not very effici

I doubt amount of such users is substantial. I assume we are talking about business decisions here, and as far as those go ditching 0.1% of userbase to radically simplify development process and architecture is a pretty simple one.

Is your mail client always in focus? Because unless this is the case analogy with vs code is not correct, when it loses focus it stops rendering the cursor.

Case in point, if you want to change some setting in w10 you may want to look in one of the following locations: Control panel (1), Control panel (2), Registry, Group Policy Editor, some random menu or other program you need to launch. Real

Surprising part isn't that atom is slow, it's that vs code isn't and they both use electron.

I have the same experience on my pretty slow laptop. Granted, my projects aren't big, but I would take vs code over sublime any day. Interestingly, atom feels much slower compared to both.

Tree-style tabs requires not only sidebar, but also access to browser interface to hide actual tabs, which AFAIK it won't get with WebExtensions.

XUL will be dropped soon in favour of WebExtentions, and it doesn't offer as much flexibility as XUL. This means it won't be possible to create addons like tree-style tabs for example.

The situation here is IMO similar to Mozilla vs XUL, except when they actually decided to drop it a ton of people decided to drop firefox. I'm talking about compatibility in general here, not js scrolling specifically.

WSL is also a byproduct of their failed attempt to run android apps on windows phone, and it's the most interesting thing they released recently at least for me.

What you are describing seems very familiar to the idea in this [0] talk that I saw mentioned in the other thread on HN. Basically, the speaker argues that any codebase has a tendency to become a big bloated mess. The proposed solution to t

My guess is the typical scenario magsafe protects from is when you have your laptop on the side of the table, charging cable to the side and you step on it or pull it down. Don't have one, so can't test this theory.

I'm not sure if it will work, but you can give [1] a try. It's as opensource as it gets, works in browser and you can deploy it yourself on your own server. [1] https://app.keeweb.info/

Exactly that, it feels slow. On my laptop I have chrome and nightly firefox which typically is faster than stable branch. I have tons of addons in chrome and only ublock in ff, and yet chrome feels much more responsive compared to ff.

Thing is, by doing this you are not encouraging users to give your app a fair review and write what they truly think of it. Instead, you want to filter those to only positives, and that is indeed gaming the system, you quite frankly want to
