If a handful of YC companies are truly asking for a $9M or 14M pre... as rumors are flying around in Silicon Valley state... Then, I could see why VC's might say that the market is overpriced and frothy. Especially, since 6 months earlie

Wow. The cost of 1 Petabyte of spinny disk storage is $100k. A friend of mine who raised money in 1999 said that to get their MVP off the ground, it took 20 engineers, and $7M in venture funding. I doubt $100k would have paid for the Ora

Ties.com might be an amazing and wonderful business, but I can't imagine too many investors getting excited about they types of exits they might have by investing in Ties.com. I wouldn't necessarily blame Angel List.

It's not about VC. It's about angels, and Angel List. Angel.co has gone from 25 to 3000 investors in 18 months. Add 10 to 12 IPO's in the next few years, and you'll see thousands of newly minted "Qualified Investors" interested in angel in

That's actually a great question. I've thought of YC as more of the Ivy League experience. Exclusive. Great brand. (No disrespect intended). And, I think that (unintentionally?) pg and the YC partners have modeled a lot of YC around an Iv

The coolest, most helpful people I've met in Silicon Valley make a concerted effort to do just those two things: meet people and get things done. Meet at least one or two new people every couple of days. And, meeting people online... much

$120 million fund. 2% management fee = $2.4 Million a year. $2.4 Million a year sounds like a lot initially, but when you consider local salaries and costs associated with this. You might think that VC's make tons of money, but when you c

Suck it up, boys. Pay your taxes like the rest of us. You're sitting on huge war chests of cash. You can afford to contribute a little bit of that to the common good. US companies in general are sitting on $2Trillion in cash. Productivi

"In Silicon Valley they hand out money like candy" I beg to disagree with you. It's still really hard to raise money. On average, it takes 6 to 9 months to raise a decent round.

I've been talking with a number of directors at length about the program, and we've been promoting it at Hackers & Founders. There is no requirement after the 6 months. And, the government support is all about walking you through the l

There's no official way, and it tends to be pretty hard to get a critical mass of people to attend. When I first started Hackers & Founders in Silicon Valley, it was 4 people and me in a bar. I kept the meetup going for a couple of yea

The much more important question is, how does one get a million users. Most startups never figure that out. Focus on that, scale later.
