A lot of cities have tool libraries as well. I think the author hits the nail on the head though with "high-friction" being the problem. When I rent a tool from the tool library, it puts me under a lot of stress to finish the job

My wife used to believe this, and then she got so sick she nearly needed a blood transfusion. Dietary needs are not universal in the slightest. She cannot have carbs or sugars, but she needs certain kinds of meat like fish or chicken. The o

I have only ever heard of painting actual shapes on to your face with makeup. I imagine that, whatever your technique, you will get noticed and stopped by security. Especially if the makeup obscures how your face looks compared to your phot

Really? My brother is helpless. He searches for any menial job he can find, and there aren't ANY. When he does get a job, it is paying far below the amount needed to pay for housing. If it wasn't for my mom, he would definitely be

I agree whole-heartedly. Every place I've worked, I get the side eye whenever I talk about how the patterns being used are dangerous, and will only get us so far before we have to re-write everything in a panic to handle a new use-case

I agree, it should be fairly simple to weed out what new frameworks actually improve on old ideas and make software easier/faster/better. I definitely think React is one such example in the front-end world. It fixes so many of the

If you have zero savings, and you lose your job, and you run out of money to pay rent, eventually get evicted, you will be homeless. It's really not a hard equation to understand. Once you're out on the streets, getting off them i

I'm genuinely curious how a person can eat very little, and still balloon up to 300 lbs. To keep it off, they have to work out 2 hours every single day? It just seems... insane? I wonder what kind of evolutionary adaptation that is...

People get arrested for CP all the time, even when they are completely innocent. Just being arrested doesn't mean anything. If they are sentenced, and serve time, that's something different. You can get popped for CP just by downl

It doesn't impact drivers by mere seconds. It creates traffic backups all the way across the city. When a driver waits 3 blocks in a row for pedestrians to cross, it creates a backup of probably 30 cars. This is my daily experience in

I think a big part of the problem is that there is too many vague, unspoken rules of the road. Making them explicit would also be impossible because there would be far to much to calculate accurately while driving (for the average person).

The media's outlook on Uber is always very fascinating to me. At least this article got things mostly factually correct, but the amount of times that blatant speculation and rumor have been published about Uber is astounding. Before Ub

It entirely depends on the problem being solved. I am not sure what their ideas are with machine learning, but essentially quantum computers help with parallelization with algorithms that can take advantage of superpositions.

If it costs you 500,000,000 dollars to build a building, you need to charge a certain amount of rent for the investment to pan out. Hint: it won't be cheap.
