There's no question that there are 15-20 families within 300 yards of my house. But that group of people absolutely does not have a sense of shared anything but the road. And the fact is that this is true of the supermajority of suburb

The first place to look is suburban development. I wrote an article[0] on Tiny Neighborhoods (aka “Cohousing”) that starts with: > “I often wonder if the standard approach to housing is the best we can do. About 70% of Americans live in

My initial question was whether this 5% was overall or just for households with someone using ozempic. It looks like it’s just for users, not across the board.

No. Absolutely not. The government owes its people a certain duty of care to say “just because you can doesn’t mean you should.” LLM’s are good for advice 95% of the time, and soon that’ll be 99%. But it is not the job of OpenAI or any LLM

I want this same analysis with more nuance about what negativity means. He mentions in the post that “technical criticism” counts as negativity. There’s just a world of difference between “I don’t like React because I don’t want to write HT

I spent probably 150-200 hours coding a money management tool in 2022. This evening, I worked with Claude to make an AI-assisted money manager that is better than the 2022 version I so carefully crafted. I had nothing at all this morning

I start at the top comment and read replies until it gets boring. From there, I read top-level comments and collapse the ones that look dull. But I never get very far into it. I also religious check my replies and try to reply when people h

It’s remarkable to me that a major new competitor in online distributed learning hasn’t already happened, considering the obvious LLM application. But this press release makes me sad. At one point both of these companies had big visions for

My grandfather’s Apple account was blacklisted too but I was less sympathetic to him because he genuinely sends spam email from his personal account (it’s politically motivated). One day he was bricked from his accounts because he ran afoul

it seems like car-makers themselves feel burdened to make their own self-driving tech, as opposed to outsourcing the software to a third party. Dell and HP don’t make operating systems…it seems like having a handful of companies focused on

The point he’s making - that LLM’s aren’t ready for broadly unsupervised software development - is well made. It still requires an exhausting amount of thought and energy to make the LLM go in the direction I want, which is to say in a dire

You know what they always say…never waste a good crisis. This is our opportunity to tell our friends that neither Times New Roman nor Calibri are very good fonts. If they’re using Word—and they definitely are—Aptos is a better choice than e

If that were true of tires, you would expect an EV’s tires to get substantially less range before wearing out…which I don’t believe is the case.

We should prefer shaming and humiliation over forbiddance––norms beat laws in such situations. Of course I prefer to read the thoughts of an actual human on here, but I don't think it makes sense to update the guidelines. Eventually th

I totally agree that it was a funny joke. But I've noticed that a lot of people think of LLM's as being _good_ at predicting the future and that's what I find concerning.

Yep, the original post seemed more snarky than anything, which was what prompted me to ask Claude my own more “sincere” question about its predictions. Those predictions were what I think of as a reflection of current reality more than any

This was a fun little lark. Great idea! It’s interesting to notice how bad AI is at gaming out a 10-year future. It’s very good at predicting the next token but maybe even worse than humans—who are already terrible—at making educated guesse
