I eat meat, love the taste of it, but would be the first to switch to a plant-based alternative. I know it's tough to acknowledge it, but lots of people like me are a bit hypocrites when it comes to meat: we hate killing animals, but w

I guess I never thought that there is a thing like "picturing a year". A year is a year to me, you have calendars to keep track of appointments and events, but that's pretty much all I see.

Being obtuse wasn't my intention. It's true that some people want something they can run themselves, no question. I was just explaining the value that we currently try to provide and the reasoning behind it.

Well, this is the same discussion as cloud vs on-premises. Sure that you can run your own VPS, install Wordpress, MySQL and all the other jazz, make sure backups are done correctly, maybe even have a load balancer and two servers behind it.

This is something that we've been trying to solve at Podigee for quite a while now. Truth is, it's tough. It's not easy to know exactly how many people have listened (for how long) to a podcast, but you can do some heuristics

[Shameless plug inside] a friend of mine and I have built a podcast hosting platform that is trying to fill exactly that void. We built https://www.podigee.com/en as a podcast hosting platform, batteries included. You just

I am not saying bcrypt is bad. But thruth is, we have to be constantly challenging our assumptions about security and avoid feeling like the battle is "won".

How can you say it doesn't scale? You just need to spin up a cluster that is powerful enough to get down to let's say a week. The cost of this would be a joke for a company / institution of a certain size.

One important niche I see that Go serves very well is in distributed, fault-tolerant deploy platforms (aka schedulers), like Kubernetes or Mesos. If you look at the amount of tooling that uses Go, you almost feel there just is no other choi

Same experience here. Writing tiny, focused, small footprint services with Go has been a blast. It really has its niche. Especially since learning to write (and read) Go is a matter of hours, more than days (or even weeks).

Once you have tried the HTC Vive, you'll know that any other VR system is already obsolete. Be it because of the experience or the hardware. I would adventure to say that the Vive makes all other systems look ridiculous. My bet is that

I think the article misses the point. Since when do you need to "justify" getting a salary that is above average? I see it as simple as: I wanted X, I was offered X-10%, we settled on X-5%. I don't need to justify anything, t

In Switzerland, you get unlimited LTE 150mbit/s with no limit & no speed reduction for CHF59 (~ USD60) per month. Just to put it in context, 60 francs in Switzerland is the price of a dinner in a good (but not excellent) restaurant

You cannot do millions doing that kind of job all by yourself. So I guess that you need a whole company for it, which implies managing people, money, paying salaries, taxes, etc. It's not only "cleaning scratched cds".
