There is a ferry from Alameda to SSF, so that would at least allow some people to make the trip. Otherwise you’re right, that’s a 1.5 hour commute each way from major East Bay locales.

I came here to say something along these lines. Letting accountants drive engineering is a fatal mistake, but so is engineering without any thought to costs and profits. I’ve walked away from more than one startup whose business plan was, “

The Earth will be inhospitable for life (as we know it) within the next 800 million years, in fact. It’s a bit sobering to think that we’ve progressed through about 75% of the time life has on this planet. Source: my favorite Wikipedia page

That's good advice, but I'm not sure I fully understand - did NordVPN have such a financial incentive?

Is there a public database of spectral lines that would enable you to do some kind of lookup, and determine the chemistry of what the spectroscope is looking at?

I’ve had a bit of interaction with the Farm. As a kid, my dad and I would sail past it (as close as you can get without being blared at). I’ve heard explosions coming from there, and seen people rappelling from helicopters into the woods. L

If nothing else, telltale traces of our nuclear industries will be clearly identifiable. There was a natural nuclear reactor in what is now Gabon, and the fission products it left behind (e.g. Rutherfordium) are how we know it was there.

Thank you. This kind of thing contributes to the continuing embrittlement of the workplace and of society itself. And we know what happens to brittle things when they encounter a bit of stress.

I’ve worked in pharma for much of my career, but will never go back. At one point I was working for a company that continues to milk profits off of a drug that was developed in the 1950s - the company doubled the price over the span of a fe

You should throw away the earplugs every few days. Or, you could use soft silicone putty earplugs, and sterilize them during the day.

They should just take it one small step further and blame it on the data itself. “We discovered that telephone numbers had synced up with advertising profiles. Twitter regrets that the data correlated in this manner.”

No one said anything about political discourse, just about differing opinions on various issues. Surely, racism is one of them. And just so you know, the prevailing Chinese opinion on that is quite a bit different that what we believe in th

No, you should not be able to live anywhere you want. That would only be true if all places were equally desirable. They aren’t. I can’t live in Monte Carlo, for example, even though it looks quite lovely. And I accept that, because that’s
