Unix filesystems can typically have filenames containing any bytes except "\0" and "/". I believe you can also have newline characters in NTFS, although Windows Explorer appears to prevent creating a file with them.

My calico understands that the laser pointer is the object that causes the red dot to appear, and would paw at it when she would want to play with the red dot. Cats pay attention and put things together!

I had a fascinating issue with Google. I am a monolingual English speaker. I visited Iceland, and as happens, Google started serving UIs in Icelandic even while I was logged in. What was interesting was this continued for weeks after return

I don't see anything particularly out of line with regular apartment rules in my experience. The only thing I can see is the quiet hours do start a little early; 11pm is more common than 10pm.

I just want to toss out that Pyston actually gives a solid 2x speedup on my Python project. You've done amazing work. Thank you!

IANAL, so take this with the requisite grain of salt, but the justice system has the power to be real dicks about how the right to a lawyer has to be invoked[1]. I would go with a very explicit request for a lawyer. [1]: https:/

Gas in a dental context is usually referring to nitrous oxide, or "laughing gas", not general anesthesia.

New hoods often are, actually — Euro NCAP tests pedestrian collision safety. Notably the VW ID.4 at least has a hood designed to collapse inward in that case; I assume other cars have this feature as well

Bollinger is extremely cool and I watched them with great interest for a while, but their initial estimates of ~$60k turned into $125,000 along with the short highway range puts it solidly into the "wealthy person's weekend toy&qu

I'm interested in hearing more about this: I greatly enjoyed The Pentagon Wars of course, but I haven't heard a defense of the Bradley's development process yet

Depends on what you're doing: any kind of 3D work requires a numpad to be effective, since that's typically where camera controls are bound in every workflow I've seen.

Caveat emptor :D I wrote this fresh out of college. Locals usage is shown in https://github.com/i80and/rcish/blob/master/trip.rc#L600-L61... I would love to do a from-scratch implementation someday, but

Oh, rc is a cool shell with a pretty chill codebase to work in! For kicks and giggles I hacked in a bunch of toy features like try...catch and linenoise support to it 5 years ago! https://github.com/i80and/rcish

I dabbled in Persona for personal things. It was DELIGHTFUL, and while I understand the rationales for why it was canned, I still harbor some sour grapes.

There was a period of UI design in the late-2000's (late 90's, if you include BeOS) where desktop gadgets caught on, and I thought that was a pretty good implementation of the general idea. Then it all vanished for some reason.

Subaru improved the A-piller visibility a bit in recent models, I think! My '13 Crosstrek has good visibility; the '08 Forester I used to drive was much worse.

You still cannot, for any meaningful concept of a "gun". You can kinda print a (rather fragile and crude) lower, but that's it as far as I've seen.

That's due to the GNOME HIG, which I agree is ugly. But GTK+ itself will render whatever padding you ask for.
